Forum idea?

Post by Pob »

Hey y'all

I know I'm a new boy around here, just an idea for you regarding the forum. I found it a little hard looking for certain topics to see if they have been covered before, before posting my question. On other forum's they seem to have more catergories which makes finding previous posts easier. I know there is a few different ones, Engine & mechnical, electrical, bodywork etc. But if I want to post something about Brake pads or wheels etc It doesn't fit into any catergory.

So my idea is, Maybe have it split into D8 & D9 sections, covering Engines petrol and diesel seperatly as catergoies. Suspension, Wheels, Brakes and Steering as one catergory. Transmission, Exhaust and Induction as another catergory. Air con & Heating as another etc etc...

It would help reduce repeated questions and help people find what they are looking for

Just an idea, please dont hate me! :)

NOOOOOO!! It's been suggested before but too many things apply to both cars. Busting the Engine and Mechanical forum would be good I suppose, it's too general, although I tend to search the whole forum because whatever I'm looking for could be anywhere...

I suppose? Don't sound to enthused about my fantastic idea! Just an idea though, maybe not D8 & D9 then if they are so similar.

I can't get on with the search thing here for some reason.

One thing I've noticed on other forums is that you can 'hover' the mouse over someone's post title and you get a little pop up sneak peak at the first few lines which is a great idea. Don't know if this forums format will allow this feature though? guys?

I probably appear hypocritical asking people to contribute to the Wiki when I haven't added much myself, but unfortunately I can't carry out any significant repairs or services 'cos I'm completely skint ^_^

If anyone has any juicy how-tos and/or pictures, and they don't fancy tangling with the Wiki themselves, I'm more than happy to help out. Perhaps Jasper would like me to post his clutch guide? That kind of thing.

By all means post the clutch how-to.

To be truthful, I completely forgot that it might be useful to post it in the Wiki, sorry.

If there's anything specific, I'll be happy to contribute, I was meant to be doing a service how-to, the main reason I haven't is the large variation in engine types, plus the fact that I haven't yet got round to servicing my wife's 406 HDi.

I'll see what I can do.
