Back in the day

Post by swiss »

Ah, 1995. Nick Leeson was arrested and Windows 95 was sent by the devil to plague us. Also, this appeared on our telly boxes.

Sexy, sexy, sexy motor vehicle. I wonder what a 1.9 sounded like when it was brand new...

Never tried a 1.9 406, but had a go in a demonstator 405 1.7td in 1991 - that was bl00dy impressive in it's day.

You could only just hear it was a diesel from inside when idling, not at all when it was moving. 4th & 5th gear performance was amazing for those days, felt more like a 3 litre petrol. Pulled really well from 1500 - 4000. Only real flaw was it felt a bit nose-heavy and didn't change direction as smartly as the 1.9 petrol.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

i had the same engine in my first ever car , a 309 grd turbo , it was a flyer back in the days cos most diesels were still rattly old direct injection non turbo jobbies  . my friend had an xr2i and my 309 was just as quick off the line but from 70mph my 309 would leave it for dead :cheesy: ahhh them were the days

Er yes. Yes it was. OOB Ping of Death? No USB/FAT32/UDMA support until OSR2? Daily BSODs? Weekly reinstalls? I even did some tests and discovered the ORDER of driver and updates installation from clean would have up to 50% impact on 3dmark results!

Did I mention weekly reinstalls?

NT4 worked. Bloody well. Just like XP, if you didn't do anything dumb (like buy cheap hardware or install crap/dodgy software), it would never crash or go wrong.

Just hope I can squeeze another 8 years out of XP. I've still got a daily use machine that's on the very same install of XP I did in 2001 before XP was released!!! Different hardware, but the system partition's still the same. I've even tried reinstalling it on a different hdd and had zero performance difference. Win. My XP laptop also had about 1.5 years uptime on it before I had to change the hdd last week.

I don't use antivirus software either 8)

mmmm, 1995......I was whizzing about in a G-reg 405 1.9 GR petrol (that was a flyer, 4 years old, mint with 50K on the clock) then I decided (really stupidly) I needed something more economical (should have punched self in face at this point) and went about trying to locate a 309GRi, found one (at Dave's Dodgy Motor's Ltd) and it was a pig...it had the 1.6 205 GTi engine but it was burning oil somehow - que expensive engine refurb, then I found out it had been jigged after a bad accident etc etc....

That was the end of Peugeots for a few years :|

Unfortunately the basic model (in the middle) didn't boast side repeaters, rear seatbelts or a passenger wing mirror in the spec list eh?
