Poor things... I can sympathise, seeing as the vet wanted to amputate Lottie's tail yesterday
He said "do you mind if I amputate?"
I said "Um.. yes....... can't you wire the break in her tail or pin it?" (Bearing in mind it's not at the base of the tail but halfway down).
Then he sort of scratched his head and said "oh.. yeah.. I suppose we could do (like he hadn't even considered it ), I will bandage it for now again and ask the head vet tomorrow what he thinks... maybe we can put two holes in it and suture them together"
The bandage they have put on offers very little support and I noticed when I got him that she'd bent it almost in half at the break so I have reinforced it with two cottonwool buds and elastoplast, if she was bigger I would have used pipe lagging but being tiny (under 3kg) it's too much for her to carry around

Lottie's poorly tail. Note the other earlier break at the tip, done 5 days before the large break. I splinted it with cotton buds but unfortunately she went on to break it again at the top of the splint where it finished.
All in all, I'm not having much luck with her, she was diagnosed with a liver shunt (basically her liver is being bypassed by a vein growing which needs closing) shortly after getting her



This pic was taken immediately after she did the second one (other dog rolled on her).
It looks a lot worse than the first pic due to the amount of swelling, you can actually manipulate it back into position and the blood supply to the end of the tail is unaffected, which is why I want to try to fix it if possible.

Ahh, poor doggies (pajama party?). Our Mary's just been under the vet, has some sort of dermatitis/allergy on her foot and licked all the hair off of it. I was putting Prurivet on it but she kept licking it off, I couldn't imagine a bandage lasting more than a few seconds and an "buster" collar (my mad ex ex-veterinary assistant used to call them Elizabethan collars) rapidly ending up in thousands of pieces in the garden like my other half's new shoes so I persevered with the jollop and, along with the shots, eventually it did the trick.

The vet probably just assumed you'd go for amputation because it'll be the cheaper option. The vets don't charge as much as brain surgeons here... I think I'd have been tempted to splint it myself too.

Now that's a tip! Our vet tries stuff out on herself, last week she had some sort of collar on but it didn't keep the mozzies away so she didn't order any more from the supplier. The Omega combination stuff did nothing for my hair either

This is one of those rare occasions when our menagerie is actually healthy.
Only had to shell out the £90 insurance excess for elder cavalier's heart tablets this month.....

Mine wanted to do that too, but it's really difficult to get into vet college. She wound up with 2 'A' levels and an AS which isn't nearly enough, so she' s a vet nurse. Now works at the Royal Vet. College & loves it

Her former BF also failed to get in, even with grade A's in Biology, chemistry, physics, maths & eng language. He eventually got into a new programme at Nottingham after getting a 1st in biology. He'll be over 30 when he qualifies...

It's a lot easier getting into medical college

...& if she does get in Daddy gets to support her for 6 more years
