MOT due tomorrow....

Post by lofty »

My first MOT on my 406 hdi tomorrow, hopefully it should be ok, fingers crossed and all that......

Assuming all goes well, i will then start pricing up replacement DMF and clutch for the old girl as well. Plus its due its 132k service and needs taxing...

If not, i'll be on here, so hide the rope and the knives.....

The 406 is pretty easy come MOT time but the main problems are the rear brakes. Mine flew through it's 3 MOT's whilst I had it.

I used to work the handbrake whilst driving on the way down there in a vein attempt at cleaning up the shoes  also a (sympathetic) Italian Tune up can help reduce smoke levels if your worried about that.

Make sure you go around all the lights yourself first and make sure the car's really clean/hoovered and has plenty of screenwash - the lack of any of these things can rub-up the MOT guy the wrong way :|

Ooh, and newly Jet-Washed wheel arches go down well in my experience (stops the guy getting a face full of crud whilst he's poking about)

Cheers Guys. I shouldnt really be worried because im quite anal about the car.... just got a touch of MOT paranoia!

Im quite lucky in a way, as the guy who owns the garage / mot tester is a reasonable friend of mine, BUT he is a very straight guy, which is what you need come mot time.

I'll post up tomorrow with the outcome.

IT PASSED!

With flying colours as well, not a single advisory. And he was very thorough with the whole test. Even the smoke test was good, minimal smoke at all.

He was very complimentary about the car, saying for the age and mileage it was a cracking example.

Chuffed to bits i am (bit like a bloke falling infront of a steam train!)

Nice one!

Now you can treat the car to something (now that you haven't had to pay for any repairs)

ha ha - you're not alone in thinking that. Im just stashing a bit of money aside each month to pay for the inevitable and costly DMF and clutch job. However the noises have got no worse the last 10k so it may go on for quite a while yet.....

Got the oil and filters for this weekends 132 k service (only a small one - said the bishop to the actress!!)
