Scumbag thieves wreck Aunty's life.....

Post by Welly »

My Aunty lives on her own since Uncle died a couple of years ago, she lives in Essex and although I don't see her very often she's great - a kind of textbook Aunty being big, bubbly, wears a 'pinny' bakes cakes etc you know kind of old skool and easy to be around.

We used to go there as kids and everyone would be out chatting over the neighbours fence, cleaning of doorsteps, gardening etc. a real community. In recent times though she's probably the only original resident left with the majority of her neighbours being from other nationalities and wouldn't even give her the time of day.

She was burgled a couple of weeks ago whilst she slept at night  they took £200.00 in cash and some old jewelery of no particular value but precious to her. She keeps my Uncle's ashes at home and they even took the lid off and rummaged through them, spilling some of them out.

Now she can't sleep, daren't sleep, or sleeps in a chair downstairs half listening out for noises :frown:

Whoever did this probably spent the money on drugs and thought nothing more of it - leaving someone's life ruined as a result.

What sort of place is this?

The Police's interest? what do you think?

Very sorry to hear this Welly. May I suggest your Aunt is supplied with a Rotweiler? They're adoring family pets until someone comes in through the back window one night... serious suggestion.

Yeah I know, a snarling Rotty would be great but I think maybe she's too old for all that now.

It's just a crying shame to be ok one minute and not the next. This has hit her hard.

Sorry to hear about this.

Its the decent folks in this world who seem to get sh1t upon by the vermin in the community. Bet the police have drawn a blank as well?

Hope she gets back to normal soon. Have you thought about a top notch House alarm to give her a bit extra peace of mind at night?

AHAHAHAHAHA!

Call the coppers and they'll just take a statement, give you a crime reference number for the insurance, then file the report away where it'll never be seen again

Really saddened by this Welters...

Have you suggested her local victim support folks?

Some of them can be very helpfull in various less obvious ways (other than counselling some are v. good for practical advice) like knowing alarm peeps, or being ex coppers themselves who to chat up informally about this and that.

She has lots of our other family down there and they're helping a lot with stuff like security lighting and an alarm etc. I suppose it'll die down but it's crap all the same :frown:

That's illegal, unfortunately. So is building a dead fall behind your front door, electrifying your door handles... the right to feel safe in our own homes has long since been eroded. I was once told I couldn't even leave the cover off the drain hole in my back garden, in case someone climbed over the fence, fell down it, broke their leg and sued me

Sorry to hear what happened to your aunt Welly, I can imagine how violated and unsafe she must feel.

If she's not been in trouble with the police before she could always apply for a shotgun licence...

If they were to break in again, she could say she feared for her life so shot the bastards. :supafrisk:

With regards to the dog, we've got 2 staffies and a labrador (weighs in at 7 stone). If someone were to break in, the staffies would just jump up and lick them and the labrador would knock them over and savage them! Once she starts then the other two switch into attack mode. That said, I live in the middle of nowhere, so if someone were to break in then they'd be pretty stupid and there's only 1 road in and out so chances of escape are slim.

I see scum like this every day and that's all they are - just a waste of skin.

I empathise with you, having had a similar problem with mother a couple of years ago. Strange blokes calling during the day and the door or windows being knocked at night. I spent several nights lying up in case I "bumped" into them - no luck. Like I say it happened a couple of years ago and it took a while but she settled down after a while.

Wish you and her well.

Sorry to hear about this. Words fail me.

I was watching traffic cops the other day and it showed my mate's next door neighbour's car after being pinched. They got the keys from the house, drove it about 2 miles before overturning it. The driver died. boo hoo.

Aah, the S3. Got to say that when I seen that I was like 'Yes! Serves the bastard right'. Maybe not the best or most humanitarian of responses, but if someone robbed my car and crashed it I'd like them to get hurt in the process. I also liked that FBI type thing they did with the 3d imaging showing how the car lost control and then flipped through the air.
