What exactly is a "rapier"

Post by rfx »

Hi all,

New here! Treat me gently...

I've just been offered a W-plate 406 90/HDi for a grand. Trim level is listed as "rapier". I've searched the Internet (and this forum) and can't find what this exactly means and where that sits in the range.

I think I'm going for this car but wanted to clear up this "rapier" thing...

Thanks,

rfx.

According to Parkers it's the same as an LX plus alloy wheels.

there were 2 rapiers on the facelift D9, the first sat between an L and LX it has black door handles, mirrors, wheel trims no spot lamps no CD player it was just totally basic where as the second rapier was fully loaded i think it sat between the GLX and GTX from what trim mine has it has colour coded everything, fogs, leather steering wheel, CD player, rain sensing wipers, chrome strips in the side mouldings, alloys, climate control etc both versions came only with the 1.8 petrol and HDI 90 diesel engines ive had both versions and both engines the first was a V plate HDI and the current one is an X reg Petrol so im guessing the one youre looking at is the later rapier, i think its a nice spec its still got a lot of toys and from outside it looks exactly the same as the higher spec cars but doesnt have too much fiddly stuff to go wrong!

Thanks for the replies!

This one has the heated screen front as well as rear and a button marked AC so that's aircon sorted! It has alloys and a CD player.

I don't remember it having leather steering wheel on the test drive but perhaps I ignored that (I drive a lot of hire cars and tend to be able to forget little things like that easily). It did have front fogs though.

60K on the clocked and I checked the MOT history online and all looks good and proper.

Guess I'm getting this one then.

Thanks!

Mine is a Rapier.

I don't think its a heated front screen - I believe its the defrost front screen.

I'm not too 'up' on Pug 406's though so maybe its an option?

Sure it's a 406, not a Mondeo?

The 406 never had a heated windscreen option, only an athermal coating option which is basically more insulated
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
