Explaining my absense..
Sorry I've not been here. Just coming up to 3 weeks ago I was the victim of an armed robbery at my office. I was alone at the time and without going into detail I was threatened with a lethal weapon, knocked around a while, and basically robbed of a quantity of cash.
Anyway the experience has hit me a bit hard I'm affraid, something I never expected (what can one expect?) life went from being pretty fine and dandy to crap in the blink of an eye.
Some say I was lucky to escape the ordeal and I was, I know that, but the mental injuries are the worst. We probably all watch these programmes on telly showing robbery etc and probably think... "hey, I'd have hit him with a bat, they don't frighten me"... but the reality of being in the thick of an armed robbery is very, very different though.
It's mostly a feeling of being bullied into doing something I suppose, or 'letting' someone get one over on you etc. not nice and a knock to the old confidence.
I'm working from the sanctuary of home at the moment whilst security is beefed up *a lot* down at the unit. I'm ok now in myself, I don't think about it so much now, but have stayed away from the forum, and also been busy with my work.
One other thing, the Police were brilliant but couldn't disagree that there is likely to be a rise in robbery on the run up to Christmas as there are more desparate people out there than ever this year. We should all be vigilant about our security etc. at the moment. The old saying of "it'll never happn to me" has slapped me right in the face.
I trust you understand, and my kind regards to you all.

Hope you're genuinely OK, Welly that must have been sheer hell.
I hope the get the barstewards, but realise that's probably not really helpful.

Look forward to seeing you back to your jovial best but don't rush it, you need time to get over these things. In the mean time stick around and we'll try and make you chuckle now and again....

Re: Explaining my absense..
Hi there Welly, im a newbie on here so u dont know me, but really glad ur physically ok m8, you will have no doubt had the Victim Support stuff through your door via the police?
well speaking from experience i cant recommend contacting them enough m8, there is the usual male bravado attached to this " i dont need that" or "me see a counsellor? i dont think so!!" but i experienced something similar a few years back(quite happy to chat about it on a pm) involving weapons and violence that totally screwed me for a good while and the guys down at V.S pointed me in the right direction and helped me a lot. It isnt just the forces who get PTSD bud.
so in conclusion Im alright now (honest!!!) (twitch twitch) and im confident you will be too m8. so chin up and if you ever want to chat to somebody whos been there too just drop me a line and we can bitch away together

That's really not good to hear Welly, I worry that one day my wife might be in a similar position as her work puts her in the frame for your horrible experience.
The daughter of my wife's friend was shot by robbers last year, it was national news at the time.
I hope you feel better soon.
Take care.

This is one of those things that you hear on the news but never actually think it happens. Until it happens to you.
And there I was, thinking you abandoned us to Vulva-land. Hope you recover soon and glad you're OK

Re: Explaining my absense..
Bolody hell Welly, that's gotta be a sh!tty experience. I can honestly say that I have been very lucky when it comes to crime in that I've not had anything happen to me where I've needed to involve the Police for over a decade now and I get rather blase I must admit.
Glad your getting over it and now you're back on here your spirits are bound to lift so you may become a bit happier in yourself. I can also advise "the newly reclassified to a B grade rating illegal drug" helps to calm you down and reduce the stress you are no doubt under...
Also, have you been to your Dr's since? They may prescribe you some Prozac or similar to help aswell. That's if you're that way inclined of course.

Oh blimey Welly, and this comes just after what happened to your aunt
I've often wondered what I'd do if someone pointed a gun at me and I'm pretty sure my bladder would let go
It'll take time, someone above mentioned Prozac (there's no shame in taking antidepressants, hell I had a very nice time on them) but save that one in case your spirits take a too long rising. I can thoroughly recommend Sanval if you're having trouble sleeping.

Lordy, blimey, cripes alive! Glad you're ok chum.
you're right about folk blathering on along the lines of "they don't scare me, I'll take a baseball bat to them" etc etc. I hear it a dozen times a day in my job, and it's utter rubbish. Unless you have some specific skill or knowledge in the use of the weapon then 99% of the time the villains, typically stoked up on adrenalin and often drugs, end up taking it of the victim and using it on them.
I hope the local dibble get the sods, and I hope your gumption comes back mate. Trust me, it almost certainly will old son
