And another one bites the dust ... by which I mean the car, not the muppets behind the wheel.

I have submitted this to the Darwin Awards website. They should win an Honorable Mention.

My investigative skills lead me to believe I could just about spot it was an 'R' reg on the rear tailgate (Daily Mail pics) :supafrisk:

The colour's a giveaway as well as the aerial. Rhodes Blue is a D8 only colour.
If the reg weren't visible, you could tell it's a late D8 (Q1 98 to Q2 99) from the chrome trim ("bluey bling").

Looks black in all the pictures I've seen, even one of the news stories says it's black. I'm still not sure about that badge on the boot, I guess it could be an early D9...

Bluddy hell, it took me ages to guess what the number plate actually says:
The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for W828 TDC are:

Date of Liability 01 02 2010
Date of First Registration 26 05 2000
Year of Manufacture 2000
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1997CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Due to Expire
Vehicle Colour BLACK
