I've removed the head on my 406 estate 110bhp hdi 8v and got it prepped for skimming, all except for 1 injector that is stuck, i can just about rotate it about 2 degrees with giant mole grips round it, but it wont come up at all,
Anyone got any handy hints or tips on removing siezed injectors ?
If not, i will be buying a 5lb 3 legged slide hammer to have a go with that
injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(

How about asking whoever it is who's doing your skimming? I thought it was glowplugs that were meant to get stuck

Re: injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(
I had thought of asking them, but as the injectors are easily damaged i would prefer to do it myself really, they might not care that they damaged the injector or the threads getting it out (like a lot of garages!), but i want to keep them as a matched set
I'm getting a slide hammer set tomorrow morning, and have been soaking and turning the injector today, and it is a bit looser, but not loose enough for a pry bar to remove, so i'm hoping the slide hammer will do it
Thanks

Why would they not care if they damaged the injector getting it out? It would cost them to repair it!
Why do you automatically assume that garages will damage stuff?
Truth is that the engineers will probably have the correct tool for removing the injector.

Re: injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(
Mostly from experience, my brother inlaw is a main dealer mechanic and he says that if an injector wont come out easily, they would just butcher it out and charge the customer for a new one, he says that they dont have 4 hours to spend taking 1 injector out if they can butcher it out detroying the injector in the process but preserving the head, they are allowed to do that, when you are billing hours to the customer, sometimes parts are cheaper than labour even if it is hundreds of pounds for a single part
Re: injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(
Destroying the injector to preserve the head is a sensible thing to do, hardly "butchering".You try getting the injectors out of a 16 valve 136 HDi, you will almost certainly damage the head.
This is a common tool used for removing tight injectors....https://www.portlandtools.co.uk/Automot ... _1807.html
There are others on the market but much more expensive and specialised.
If the injector has moved side to side, I use pry bars or flat bladed screwdrivers to gently ease out the tight injector.

Re: injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(
I'm doing a 16v hdi head on an 806 as well at the moment !!, i have 3 injectors out (they were all a nightmare to remove), but the fourth is stuck for now, but i'm determined to get it out without damaging the injector or the head!, but that car is waiting for warmer weather before i restart that project, i'm just spraying plusgas on it every now and then, hoping it will penetrate and help me remove it
I have looked at those tools before, but never seen one that cheap, i'm puzzled as to how you would attach it to the injector though ?, i didnt think there were any m8 m12 or m14 threads available to pull on ?, or is there another adaptor you have to buy that cradles the injector and has an m14 thread on its top ?
I really dont like destroying anything to fix a car, i only work on cars as a hobby, so my time costs me nothing, so i'd rather spend 20 hours removing an injector in 1 piece than 1 hour butchering it out and then paying £400 for a new replacement one

Re: injector stuck in 8v hdi head :(
Anyone want to see my tool i made to remove the injector ?, it removed the injector in perfect condition in about 5 minutes total, should have made it years ago !!, best bit is that it will fit on the 16v hdi heads on 806 and 807's where you have almost no access to pull injectors out without removing the engine !
