FOR SALE: 406 D9 Saloon 1.8 16v

Post by ally406 »

Advertised on behalf of my Dad. Copied and pasted from his ad:

Peugeot 406 “Rapier” MkII Saloon. 1.8 16v, metallic silver. First registered 30/09/2000 (X plate). 74,000 miles, MOT May 2012. Tax October 2011.

Part service history, power steering, climate control (serviced last year), recent exhaust, front and rear electric windows, 2 new tyres, remote central locking, CD player.

The vehicle drives very well and has no mechanical or electrical issues. There are some minor dents on the driver’s door and rear passenger door, but otherwise the vehicle is in very good condition throughout. Original Peugeot alloy wheels are in good condition.

I have to say the car drives very well indeed. No unusual noises from the suspension and it feels good and tight. Engine pulls very well and the gearbox is good and slick. Will come with a set of filters and oil so you can do your next service FOC.

Asking price is £950. Car is located in Clydebank, near Glasgow.

If you want to add a nice selling point to the car, I do have a Powerflow cat-back stainless steel exhaust system recently removed from a deceased 1.8 petrol saloon. Looks and sounds lovely, helps get a bit more power out of that 1.8 engine.

Thanks mate, as it's not mine, I'll leave it as it is!

No interest in this? It really does drive great and is in very tidy condition. Come on round and we can talk about the price

If you do sell it, mention to the seller that you know where you can get a stainless exhaust :)

It's sodding useless except for on 1.8 litre saloons :(

Haha, how on earth did you come across one of those? I'll do you a deal, I'll tell anyone that buys this car where to get a powerflow exhaust, if you tell everyone where to buy a 406 1.8 saloon

Hi mate, that's a fair hike, about 8 or 9 hours! I'll run it past my dad and see what he says. Would you be able to meet half way?

Deal :D

I had a Powerflow exhaust fitted to my old car, which was a 1999 V-Reg D9 1.8 petrol saloon, in China Blue. The old exhaust system had rusted away and was blowing very badly - the car was down on power, which isn't great considering the 1.8 was the least powerful engine offered to UK 406s. Adding the Powerflow restored all the lost power and gave a noticeable boost.

Some arse in a white van knackered her all down her right side while she was parked up on the high street in Earlston, while I was off test-driving my Coupe. I came back to find the paintwork scraped away over both right-side doors and door mirror, a nice dent in the wing, and the side indicator light broken. He'd f*cked off without leaving any details. Witnesses were useless, didn't even get his reg, even though he was apparently there for 5 minutes asking people if they knew whose car it was. It failed its next MOT months later and would have cost more than £350 to repair (and that's before the paintwork and dent, which would have cost at least £400 to repair) - so I scrapped it. Gutted; I loved that car.

If you do sell it to the chap in Reading, and he is interested in having the exhaust as well, I can take the exhaust down to Clydebank this weekend as I'll be in Edinburgh (step-son's going to the Napier University open day). It does fit in the Coupe, but you have to fold down the rear seats and endure it poking through between the front seats, just over the cup holders :D
