Diesel Tuning box (Van Aaken)
Hi
I have for sale a pre-owned Van Aaken smart diesel tuning box.
It is for the 90bhp 2.0 HDi engine.
I sold my 406 a few years ago and took this off prior to sale. It will also fit the same Citreon engine.
It made a marked improvement in torque (purchased as I was towing a small carvan) It also increases the BHP to 110 with no increase in MPG. I was extremley happy with it.
The company was highly regarded but a bit expensive in relation to other cheaper tuning boxes. Reguarly featured in magazines as a best buy (the reason i bought it).
I still have the original invoice which was for £400 plus VAT. £470 in total !!!!!!!
Simple to install, just connect to the battery and plug on to the injectors.
£75 plus postage.

Re: Diesel Tuning box (Van Aaken)
Is this one of those boxes that just overfuels the engine? Not much cheaper than a proper remap either.

Thanks
Never noticed any increase in MPG and the boxes got a great write up by the media. Properly mapped and tested for a wide range of engine wear.
However due to the flood of cheap chinese imports most people went for the £50 overfuelling types, Not good.
You take your choice.

Re: Diesel Tuning box (Van Aaken)
Never seen a tuning box get a good write up in the media myself, seen plenty of guys rave about them on forums though, as they've just blown a big chunk of cash on it and nobody likes to admit they've been "done"
And they aren't mapped, they're preprogrammed to supply extra fuel across the range.
A proper remap is a fraction more expensive and IS proven to give a good results.
£470 for a box compared to £130ish for a proper remap........ You take your choice .....

Thanks for your opinion and input into a straight forward branded product that worked for me for years and now at a good price.
Why you would want to spend your time hijacking an honest for sale item god knows.
It is what it is ..... I'm not claiming it to be a full re-map. It did the job for me and will do for someone else.

I'm just making people aware that these tuning boxes aren't as great as you made out.
You don't have a solid interest in this forum, your only reason for joining was to try and flog this tat to somebody who wasn't clued up on what they really are.

Re: Diesel Tuning box (Van Aaken)
Calm down.
There ARE examples of tuning boxes which DO improve torque, power and economy. Car Mechanics magazine got one installed in a Golf TDi project car about a year ago and had it on a rolling road before and after which showed it had a reasonable effect.

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Diesel Tuning box (Van Aaken)
My take on this is that they can only work by 'fooling' the ECU into increasing the rail pressure and hence the quantity of fuel injected. Difficult to say how well or badly this might work - it doesn't sound the ideal method, but given that most diesels are running with masses more air than they need, it's conceivable you could get an improvement.
(Also has echoes of de-catting a 24V Carlton - initial impression of masses more grunt, but you eventually realise you're getting virtually the same response a on smaller throttle opening and any difference in out & out performance is negligible).
