110 HDi LX Family 93k

Post by waue1978 »

The 406 is now officially on full sale. Heard nowt from the fella at work so am taking it that he isn't genuinely interested. Currently awaiting the tax disc to arrive to be able to remove W4UEJ, but that should take a matter of days only. It will then revert to X745EBY. The replacement will be arriving next weekend & after that the car goes on Ebay while some of the add ons get sold separately (strut brace, alloys etc).

As a quick sale offer (& to see the car go to a good enthusiast's home) I'll sell on here to known members (not newbies who have just joined to buy on the cheap) with:

12months tax
Brand new front brake discs & pads still boxed
Strut Brace
Non-smoker kit & standard ashtray
Uprated speakers all round with the standard items still spare
Nautilus Wheels fitted & a spare set of 16in Coupe Hoggars - all with useable tyres (& 1 brand new one)
Stripped height adjustable passenger seat (drivers seat from Steve Earwig's old car)
Spare black glovebox housing
Coupe gearknob & standard gearknobs as spares
Coupe leather steering wheel with the standard as a spare
Headlight protectors
Rapier doorcards (minus the black ash trim, but including a set that I attempted painting)
Roof bars (that I bought with a view to getting painted silver)
2 spare wiper arms
& all other 406 bits that I've amassed in the past couple of years.

The car was serviced when it was MOT'd & the cambelt, water pump, bottom pulley & aux belt were changed less than 2 years ago. It's also had new droplinks, new air con condensor, new rear caliper & rear pads & a new exhaust within the past 2 years. This car is my current record holder for ownership as the previous best was 12 months before I fancied a new one - this one lasted over 2 years. Mainly because everytime I felt like changing I realised I wouldn't get another 7 seat diesel with less than 90k for anywhere near the same money & the odd few I looked at made me appreciate how tidy mine already was.

Most of the regulars here know how fussy I've been with the car & the bodywork puts a lot of cars half the age & mileage to shame. The only faults I can really pick are that the central locking is still playing up now & then - push the button & the indicators flash, but the car doesn't unlock. They do all manually unlock still & an hour later you can go out & all will be back to normal. We also picked up a small new dent (3ins shallow, no paint broken just in front of the fuel flap) & a below par drivers side wing mirror after a wobbly pensioner managed to bash into my wing mirror passing a parked car on the side of the road - the dent came when his mirror banged into my car on the way past & the replacement mirror I bought was nowhere near as clean as the old one. I also managed to put a light scrape on the edge of the passenger front alloy wheel 4 months ago (again due to avoiding a wobbly pensioner passing parked cars).

I'm sorry to say I still haven't got any decent pics since I fitted the SRi interior at Christmas, but come Ebay time I'll be spending a day scrubbing & polishing for the listing. The only difference is that the SRi seats are cleaner & with manual adjustment & there is now a new Peugeot lion badge on the boot:

Funnily enough the guy I bought it from said that too. I've got a massive selling point on it at the mo as it also has a full tank of fuel! Hopefully I'll get to use it up before it goes. Got to go to Leicester to pick the new car up, so that'll use a fair chunk.

Not so much a secret, but last time I'd done a deal on a new car it turned out to be a pup so I ended up sticking with the Pug, so I'm not counting my chickens just yet. Pug is going no matter what though. Don't need 7 seats anymore & i fancy something with a wee bit more oomph.

Shame on you!

Here's hoping you two stick around, despite finding alternative wheels. We shooting-brake chaps will become rather scarce at this rate. :(

Sold today. Put it in Autotrader yesterday & had loads of emails & phone calls. Had somebody come round lunchtime today & got the impression that he really wanted it (kept remarking on how clean it was & how well it went), but he was put off by the wheel balancing vibration - I'd forgotten how much of a pain the Hoggar wheels are, much as I like the look of them. Next visit came from a Polish guy from London at 3:15pm & he snapped it up. He wanted something economical with plenty of bootspace for trips to Poland & my car fit the bill. Quite sad to see it go - I've never had a car so long & definitely never had one that I'd transformed so much in my ownership. If only I could buy a car in the same condition as they are when I've finished with them - sparkling clean with a full MOT, a years tax & 85% full of fuel...

Anyway, most annoying thing was, when I got inside chit-chatting with her indoors I commented how if we couldn't manage with the Beemer I could always get another 406 estate later on - her response was that she never liked it anyway! When I asked her what the last car I had was that she liked, she couldn't remember. She didn't like the Mondeos (because her late husband always had Mondeos & it reminded her of him), before that the Merc 190E was just "old looking". Wasn't the Zafira because she said "7 seaters are just big ugly yokes!". When pressed she reckoned the Beemers were probably the only cars I had that she liked.
