Peugeot 406 GLX Saloon 3.0 24v LPG/Petrol (194bhp) 1996 Blue

Post by pauls »

Hi folks, unfortunately I need to try and sell my poor 406, (see thread in the electrical section), after several folk on ebay messing me about, I wonder if anyone on here would be interested:

Peugeot 406 GLX Saloon 3.0 24v LPG/Petrol (194bhp) 1996 Blue – Spares / Repairs
Approx 146,500k miles
MOT until 14th May 2013

Professional multipoint LPG conversion with certificate (BRC Sequent system, toroidal 60l tank) – fitted at 60k miles
Koni adjustable dampers fitted all round
Front strut brace
Full stainless steel exhaust
New rear brake pads (genuine Peugeot) and rear brake discs (June 2012)
New LPG injector solenoid (April 2012)
New strut top bearings and new n/s/f top mount (April 2012 133k miles)
New front Pagid pads, and new front discs March 2012 (132k miles)
New LPG liquid phase filter Feb 2012 (131k miles)
New n/s/r TCA fitted, and a new o/s/r supplied with the car (not needed though, the TCAs came in pairs)
New NGK spark plugs (130k miles Dec 2011), and new coilpack and leads (from Peugeot) (Oct 2011)
LPG service including 3 new injector solenoids and gas phase filter Sept 2011

Previous owner had it from 58k miles until 130k miles, who looked after it very well, as well as routine servicing it had:

At 86k miles it had the cambelt changed
The clutch, along with the master and slave cylinder, was changed at approximately 100k miles.
The SS exhaust was also fitted at around 100k miles.
At 110k miles it had new PAS pump and Air Con compressor.

It has always had fully synthetic oil at regular oil changes.

Has normal extras such as PAS, ABS, e/w, e/m, heated mirrors, stalk on the column for stereo control, climate control (all works well including the air con). Also has auto wipers (which work). Immobiliser keypad all still works fine too.

Very quick and comfortable car.

Bad bits:
Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago I went to start it in the morning to go to work and had a problem. It started, ran for 5 seconds, stopped, then wouldn't start at all (but the engine still turns over). I'd last used it the day before for a ~200 mile trip without problem. The main EML on the dash is not illuminating when it won't start, and I have the red and green lights on the immobiliser keypad, so it looks like it may be a power supply problem to the ECU? Unfortunately I have no time to sort this out and needed transport again so have bought something else and this must go. Could be a quick fix and a real bargain for someone.

Sometimes stalls when idling on LPG, it has always does this since it was converted (as did my old Primera on LPG), due to the length of hose between the injector solenoid and the inlet manifold. You could probably find a better place for the solenoids with a shorter run of hose, but I’ve not been that bothered by it, just use the throttle pedal if the idle starts to drop, or switch to petrol.

Paintwork isn’t great in places – it is has several marks (worst being the boot lid and the roof) and is scratched on boot due to a dog, and has some odd patches on the roof where it looks like bird poo has damaged the paint. There’s also a v small scrape on the n/s/f wing just where it meets the bumper.

As it’s the cream interior, it does show the dirt a bit, and the drivers seatbelt has several dark patches on it.

Finally, there’s a slight oil leak from the sump/block flange (common on the V6-Peugeot don’t fit a gasket, only liquid sealant which drys out).

I can email pics on request (or look at my expired ebay ad: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321096317770? ... 098wt_1398 )

It’s worth more than the asking price price in parts plus scrap value for the shell.
To be clear this must be trailered away as the engine will not start at all.
