I've tried several things :( I've still got a couple more things to try but they are quite involved and I need to make up a jig, and I've just not got time at the moment. I will definitely get round to it at some point though, promise!

Aye. And the 90% broken one that was a bit better than mine also fetched £16 would have had it for a tenner even for a temporary improvement.

There is still this one with a single line: http://r.ebay.com/ki5dFl

I know there has been a lot of speculation about heat, but I think damp has a lot to do with it. In the summer the heat makes mine fade from the top, but its the damp winters that seem to produce the lines..

My car moves once a week (work from home and have a little run around for the nursery run) and it takes ~ 100 miles of driving with the heater on before the lines reduce, I even got them to vanish after a 300 mile trip.

I have often thought about taking it apart and packing in a load of silica gel sachets to see if it has any effect.

Those are getting to be silly money

Time to consider if this http://graham.auld.me.uk/projects/vanbus/index.html could be a starting point for a replacement

Im consider of getting a SatNav display to upgrade from a normal display, but its so hard to find one thats not completely munted and so many nightmares about lines. Wonder if I should take the risk of spending heaps on one because in Auckland (New Zealand), the coldest it ever gets is about -1 celcius on the odd mid winter night and it never snows in Auckland. So it shouldn't decrease its life as much as it would in the UK. Can anyone tell me if its worth getting the SatNav display as it looks quite flash and more modern looking. Whats the functionality like (Minus the SatNav)

Well, Sat-Nav aside - all you gain is a nice layout, pictures of a CD and 1 extra trip computer ( type c has 2, type b has 1 )

It might look nice but the screens do suffer from heat as well as cold.

I wouldn't bother personally, type b rarely go wrong and the bulbs can be replaced.....
