FS: 53 plate 406 HDi 100 SE, spares or repair.

Post by Fuzzdog »

Hello Peugeot people - haven't been around these parts for a while, but seeing as the time has come for me to part ways with my 406, I thought I'd pop it up here!

2003 HDi SE, 138,000ish miles (dash says over 230,000 due to me connecting a used cluster for a few seconds to diagnose a faulty speedo - oops!), manual, short MOT 10th October, taxed until February.

16" alloys, half leather, power seats, sat nav (display is missing the requisite few lines), auto lights/wipers, etc, etc - you know the spec.

Inside in very good condition, outside has a fair few little bumps and scratches but nothing drastic. Exhaust will be a definite MOT fail, as the back box has a hanger which has parted company with the box and is sitting at a slightly jaunty angle.

Runs smoothly and quietly (for a diesel!) and feels nice and tight to drive, no warning lights, even has the remote for the sat nav. Has a tuning box fitted, which certainly gave it a little extra push, although I never really turned it up particularly high. However, I noticed a couple of days ago that there has been some mixing of oil and water somewhere, so it has a coolant bottle containing a fair bit of pink mayo. Not sure if it's a very minor leak in the head gasket, a crack in the heard, or something else a lot less disastrous - either way, I have a new car now, so I'm not really too enthused about putting money into the 406, and need the space!

I'd rather I didn't have to drive it off to the scrappy as it's still a great car, I'd much rather someone take it on as a fixer or just as a rolling source of spares for their 406. Don't really want to break it, as I have neither the time or storage space at the moment!

Drives perfectly fine, so can be driven home, although obviously I cannot make promises if you're taking it a few hundred miles or so. ;)

Located in Brockenhurst, Hants. I'd get about £350 back if I got the tax refund, pulled some easy bits out and drove it to the scrappy, so if you can match that, it's yours!

Very tidy! And a bargain if you can fix it easily enough! Not sure I've heard of anyone having head gasket issues on the HDI engines...

I'm pretty sure it's not the head gasket - car drives absolutely fine, exactly the same as it always has, returns the same MPG, everything. All I know is that somewhere, at some point in time, some oil and some coolant have mixed, and there is a bit of mayo. Fluid levels don't seem to be going down at all, so I'm just listing worst case scenarios, as I don't like people buying cars without full disclosure. I haven't really got the time or the inclination to dig into it deeper, as I need the space sooner rather than later, so someone might get a bit of a bargain.

Now that is interesting as my breaker has a good 110 engine with only 83,000 on it.

Any expert spanner twirlers fancy buying both :cheesy:

Oh sorry  force of habit. Pity had it been an estate I may well have been interested.

Bump with link to lots of new photos - http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/newfo ... geot%20406

Apologies for it being a bit filthy, I'm still driving it on a daily basis. Better than leaving it sat idle doing nothing! :D
