[WANTED] - Useable front coil spring 406 Hdi ?

Post by Waxman »

Well the Rubble Shifter is currently at the bottom of the drive, with the N/S/F resting on the wheel due to broke spring.

After a N/S/F coil spring and have seen prices from £13 up to £105(main dealer) for a new coil.

Thought I'd throw a shout on here to see if anyones got a useable one sitting on the shelf in the garage collecting dust before I delve into the would of buying one online.

Car is 406hdi 110 Estate year 2000

Thx

I have two pairs of KYB front springs in my house that are suitable for TD and HDi 406 saloon and estate models

KYB K-Flex RG1552

However, I don't think they're compatible with the 2.0 HDi saloon/estate models - just the 1.9/2.1 TD, and the 2.2 HDi.

They'd fit, but the front end might sit a bit higher than you'd like it to.

KYB springs are cheap enough if you don't feel the need to go with Peugeot original parts, and they are OEM quality. I bought KYB parts because the original Peugeot 406 shocks and springs are now likely been on shelves for ages.

Recommend changing both front springs and the shocks at the same time. Do the rears too if you can (if they haven't already been changed very recently, that is)

More importantly don't forget to factor in new strut top bearings as this WILL be the course of your spring failure :(

Oh yeah, forgot to mention them.

Springs will snap with age too, though, but there's no point in putting the old strut bearings back on. Chances are they'll disintegrate when you take them out as it is (ball bearings will go EVERYWHERE) and you'll have no choice but to replace them.

Wouldn't recommend it if you're keeping the car any length of time. Strut bearings are pretty cheap and should last as long as the shock/spring does, and the shock and spring need to come out in order to change it - so it seems a false economy to put an old one in there

Cheers guys.

I'll get new strut mounting sorted and new springs. - Having looked into the strut mounting issue, makes sense just to renew them all.

Thx
