Workshop Manual and parts catalogues on CD/DVD

Post by Wrinkly57 »

Hi everyone, just joined today, got a 1999 406 GLX Estate back in June this year and now want a manual for it.
Have spent many months trying to acquire one (Haynes one doesn't cover the 2.0 HDi)
Anyone got one they'd like to sell me? (If you have one from a certain manual distributor in Coventry on DVD
I will politely decline!)

Hi there! Haynes does indeed cover the HDi but only in the later car, I guess that's the price you pay for having an "in-between" This is actually what you want (or maybe something less abused... :P )

Parts I can help you with: Sign yourself up to this http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ , it's Pug's own parts catalogue (btw anyone know if there's one for Citroen??). It's free and you don't actually commit yourself to buying any of this stuff, so you can scare yourself as much as you like :cheesy: There's a box up the top that you can stick your VIN in so you don't have to trawl through to find stuff, it'll just direct you to parts for your particular motor.

Servicebox and the Haynes. Don't bother with the CD that's doing the rounds on ebay - it's useless.

If you need specifics on your engine, such as changing the cambelt, you can buy one-offs at Autodata or check the paid-for section of servicebox. The latter can be *incredibly* detailed at times (I found a document on there that went into daft detail about the design of the 3.0V6 inlet manifold!!!) but hard to navigate through. It's superb if you can find what you want though...

Dear Steve_earwig,
Tried your suggestion to register at http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com and eventually found my way to sign up
but did struggle with the form being in French and when it came to selecting the country I live in, there was no entry for England, Britain, Uk, call it what you will! Where am I going wrong? Is there another way to select an english language version
In addition I could not find a facility to select and enter a User ID, only my e-mail address which was happily accepted.
Sorry if I appear to be an idiot-I live in a village so suppose I am the village idiot!

No, that just makes you English - you don't know much of the language of the nearest country to you. Did you try shouting :P :cheesy:

I'm sure it wasn't like that when I signed up! Ah well, there's plenty of translation services on the 'net, Babelfish says you need to look for Grande-Bretagne. It will issue you with your very own hard to remember user ID, which, if memory serves, it will email to you.
Babelfish wrote:After validation, an email specifying your identifier customer will be sent to you to l' email address indicated.
Société means your company, make one up! And remember, all the fields in fat are obligatory.

When it's happy and you have your email, go back to the link (or hit "Accueil" in the top rh corner) and stick it in the boxes. One thing to watch for is the language often defaults to French  Once inside you can either go to "Free Services" "Spare Parts Documentation", then select your car from the list, or shove your VIN in the "Véhicule" box and it'll take you straight there with a filter so you only get to see parts for your car. While you're there you might like to hit "Charicteristics" to see how your car left the factory (my D8 has the wrong wheels on it)

Many thanks Steve, What a gem you are! I didn't shout, but called upon the translation services of
my wife who studied french some 35yrs ago, but never having used the language was unable to remember
much so it was down to guesswork which obviously went wrong! Will post again to let you know how i get on
(I heard that groan from here!)

Well THERE's your problem... That's not a valid 7-digit postcode!

Try AR53 5EX
