I have just had my rare 2000 w reg 406 2.2 sri estate a month or so but already I wish I had not. The car is amazing and very quick and still gives a decent mpg but my last 3 cars have all been auto's and I thought I could live with a manual as I liked the car but I really miss my auto box.

I have thought of selling and getting an auto either a 406 or even dare I say it a Volvo v70.

Anyone want to do a swap for a similar age 406 auto estate?

No longer for sale or swap, mods please close.

Change of plan now. I am after a diesel manual or auto. Similar age/value etc.

dont mind if smaller. Pug 206, 306 even a 406. Or a renault clio or megane 1.5dci.

The trouble with Peugeot slushmatics is they aint very srong (apparently) :|

Also a cheap £1,000.00 ish Diesel won't do you many favours either (troublesome).

Best bet I think would be a cheap Jap auto petrol (like an old Toyota Camray or similar) :?:

May be best just keeping it. But I get bored so easily it's stupid lol.

Not sure i agree on diesels though as I have had many older diesels with 100k plus milage with no problems. My old 406 1.9d estate had 190k when sold and had 90 when I got it. If seviced regular etc they go on quite well, though the Hdi models seem to be more troublesome compared to the older ones.

Auto not my main want now as it's a bit choosey. I just prefer diesel's, dunno why as this petrol sri is a flyer with plenty of torque, but not as much as a diesel. I sold a laguna 1.9dci for this and even though the 406 is more refined and a smoother drive I sort of miss the lag, especially the 50mpg I got from it.

I will prob just keep it and px it on next yr for something I fancy.

The EW12 2.2 petrol is a cracking engine. In the 407 it's faractionally faster than the DW17 V6 HDi unit, but also several MPG better with the consumption...

You are right it is a cracking engine, loads of power and 40mpg on a run and around 32mpg mixed driving so good for a big car really.

I think everyone is right and I should keep it and just run for as long as I can considering it's condition and what Ipaid for it. It is mint inside and only 2 small scratches to the paint so very good condition. Just the alloys could do with a refurb but hardly worth spending money on them really. It has been very reliable so far and runs as if it was much newer and with only 80k on the clock it should have years left in it.
