Something seems 'odd' about that, but I can't quite put my finger on it. There's a lot of 'buyer beware' stuff though: Firstly, no tax+mot means you can't drive it away or test drive it, so you don't know what you're getting until it's far too late. It's obviously going to need considerable expenditure for the MOT, else the guy would have sold it as a runner for a hell of a lot more (4 tyres, brakes all round, exhaust, CV boots at a minimum?). There's a chance it could be seriously overdue a cambelt change too. Did the D9s not have a cream glovebox and lower dash trim like the D8?

Definitely a possible 'fixer-upper' if you know what you're getting into though; it's very cheap for a D9

I was thinking £500 max with 12 months & no other issues. I'm surprised somebody's bid over £200 on this

* takes cover *
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Actually my slant on this motor is that it's quite probably decent and honest and the guy did get a compay car but has left the 406 on his drive to see how the job pans out first whereupon the MOT and Tax has run out!

His comment about being mucked about by two previous buyers could refer to another experience he's had with the bay of e.

Take £400 in your back pocket, some big kahunas in your pants and drive into the sunset happy in the knowledge that even if its gonna fail the MOT it'll never be a Renault

Well you can bid and win it. If you find serious issues that werent described in the auction, then you don't have to take it

That is one seriously basic motor! Think of a feature your 406 has and it won't have it. My 406 was the same spec as that and i added the following to bring it up to spec.....(here we go again)

GLX Seats
CD Player
Dual Line display
Temp gauge
Chrome side mouldings
Painted door handles and mirrors
Trip comp :)
Boot lid liner

Anyways, the first D9 seems like a much better deal. Although the latter is a diesel, its crap. Not even foglights. Pah! And it probably is clocked
