Nah, it's made of some absolutely unweldable plastic. Tried with plastic specific loctite but with no effect.lozz wrote:What is this clip thing made of?

must be that abs plastic like garden furniture is made of, and theres on point using a soldering iron i think its thermosetting so it wont melt.

Yep, but I think soldering iron won't grip enough: it's made to solder iron, which has a very different molecular structure to ABS. I'll do some more research.FarmerPug wrote:must be that abs plastic like garden furniture is made of, and theres on point using a soldering iron i think its thermosetting so it wont melt.

Re: I was breaking a car, but not anymore
Its made for solder but it can melt and join thermosoftening plastics I've done that before but it won't work for abs
Re: I was breaking a car, but not anymore
Hareldite is good on plastic,
dont know if thats spelt correctly,
soldering iron is not much good for welding plastic,
Blow torch and a old thin pointed screwdriver works tho ive used the Gas cooker for heating screwdrivers up in the past
not good welding plastic in the kitchen tho

araldite
its good stuff yes, always worth a try when superglue fails
The soldering iron method, it can melt the plastic but ideally if your welding plastic together you need to feed in new plastic to help bond the two bits.

Re: I was breaking a car, but not anymore
ive heard that stuff dentists use for fillings is good,
irember my mate saying he bought some from the chemist when his false tooth fell out he glued it back in with the stuff
dont know what its called tho but hes glued stuff on his Model steam boat with what he had left of it,
so its good on plastics ipresume,

Bicomponent glues are good for plastics usually, but once open do not last long (listening to my near-home seller), and I don't want to spend 6€ for a single, 2mm², use.FarmerPug wrote:araldite

Re: I was breaking a car, but not anymore
that looks easy to fix,
Fine dril bit dril through it and screw the thing toghether,
bit of black silicone wouid hide the screw head afterwards

I've never seen a screw so small it could be used on that tiny piece of plastic. I thought of it too but it's just too small.lozz wrote:that looks easy to fix,
