Wanted: Cigarette Lighter Socket (MUX D9)

Post by highlander »

Hello,

If anyone's breaking a 406 at the moment, I'd like to have the cigarette lighter socket; the garage I took my Coupe to has said the reason the fuse is constantly blowing is most likely to be in the socket body, as they can't fault the wiring anywhere else. They're a tiny independant garage, so they didn't have the parts in stock - and since they typically order Peugeot parts from a dealer in Inverness... I thought I'd check with you guys first to see if there is one going and how much for.

Also, if anyone knows the dealer price for the socket body, please let me know.

No idea if the part is different between D8, D8.5, D9 (pre-COM2000), or D9 (fully MUX COM2000) cars; I really can't see it being different, but you never know.

Note: this is low priority; I've got bigger fish to fry, but it'd be nice to have an idea of how much I need to spend. Even better would be if this is an easy part to swap out and doesn't involve soldering (partly because I don't have a soldering iron, but mostly because I'm a tremendous coward when it comes to meddling with my car) - maybe someone could tell me how to swap it out?

Cheers
Graeme

For some reason Service Box won't give me a price on that  but it's a different part on the D9 to the D8.

Typical, and I'm glad I asked! Bloody Peugeot. What's different about them?

I think the console is the same part so it's probably the wiring connector.

Just go to your local pug dealer with your VIN. It's about £12 I think, which'll be cheaper and better than a 2nd hand one when you factor in P&P...

My nearest dealer is in bloody Peterhead, unfortunately, which is nowhere near anywhere I go - so there will be P&P charges - which will be cheaper than the cost of fuel for a trip up there.

I'll also try asking one of the breakers' yards locally - I just wondered if anyone on here had one they needed rid of.

The cost of fuel is a joke these days

Thanks :cheesy:

I'll pop an e-mail to Gillanders and ask them for a quote for a brand new one

I'm going into my local dealer tomorrow afternoon to pick up my DMF and clutch, if I can be of any assistance, just ask.

Thanks Jasper - if you could ask them for a price for a cigarette lighter body for a 2002 Coupe, that would be great as I can get an idea of how much this should cost.

Are they easy to remove/fit?

I'll be glad to, no problem.

Might be useful to give me the last 8 digits from your vin number.

I've never changed one on a 406, but if it's anything like this in the knowledge base, you have to remove the centre console......

I went to the dealer earlier....

They have the Cigarette lighter socket in stock and the price is £26-90p including vat. I can get 10% off for trade.

I've seen after market sockets on sale in car accessory shops before, I can't remember how much they are, but I'm going for some more bits to my local shop tomorrow, I will find out.

I got my DMF and clutch, £590 inclusive of vat.

I popped into my local breakers - all of the 406's had the lighter sockets, but didn't have the lighter itself. One of the cars had the centre console ripped out, but it was still inside the car, so it should be a quick 2 minute job to take the lighter socket off.

Which breaker is that? I don't know the Bridge of Don area very well at all.
