Looking For Clean Low Mileage HDi Estate - 110 Or 2.2
Hello all. It's been a while, but I'm on the hunt for another 7 seater & thought it may be worth checking on here.
Any of the guys that remember me will testify as to how fussy I am, but I'll happily take something that may need a bit of attention in one area as long as the rest measures up. Although I'm looking for a 7 seater in particular, it is relatively straightforward to convert a normal estate.
Ideally I'd like a 2.2 Exec, but they're a wee bit thin on the ground at less than 100k.
The main requirements are:
Under 95k - service history not essential, but would be nice to have evidence that it was reasonably looked after
Electric Rear Windows - because they have an off switch!
Rust Free - as you can never fully get rid of it once it's started
Grey or black interior - nothing against beige or tan, but you can only get the 7 seat conversion in grey & it would never look right.
110 or 2.2 Hdi preferably, but I may be interested in a 2.0 petrol if it's in remarkable condition or maybe an SRi. Would not be interested in V6, 1.8 or 90 HDis.
If anybody has one of these going or knows anybody with one, please give me a shout. Please bear in mind though that I'm way down South (Hampshire), so if you're miles away, pics would be really helpful. If nothing about, any other tidy 7 seaters under £3k may be of interest.

The Partner's still going. Haven't really done anything to it bar fit a set of 306 alloys when the tyres needed replacing. Reason for replacement is the potential need for the extra seats that we had when I had the 406. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have sold it.scotty73 wrote:i guess this is a welcome back? is the partner still going or have you just had a guts full?
Over Christmas we had the twins (19 year olds) over from Ireland which meant there was 6 of us in the house. Not a massive issue as we just left the 12 year old at his mate's house while we did the airport run. But then (after all the times my Mrs said we don't need a 7 seater because if anybody comes over they can get the bus or taxi) came the inevitable "I've got to do something with them" so she took them to the cinema. It would've been unfair to take them & not the 12 year old, so he was asked & wanted to go which meant that there was 6 of us to get to town (even though me & my little boy weren't going). So I ended up driving them into town, then driving back & taking the rest down with a repeat performance to pick them all up. 45mins running backwards & forwards dropping off & picking up. The conversation with her afterwards went something along the lines of "we either get a 7 seater again or YOU learn to drive so you can take the f**kers out".
Needless to say, the decision was that we get another 7 seater. I think the whole town breathed a sigh of relief over that one...
Sounds ok, but that part about getting it running properly is a bit off-putting. Those HPi engines are a bit specialist really & I have a sneaky feeling that they aren't too happy doing short trips. What's wrong with it?scotty73 wrote:there's a mint hpi exec tucked up nice and warm in a garage near me looking for a good home if you can get her running properly.

Hi Stu, nice to hear from you again.
You could be in for a bit of a search to find what you're looking for - I picked up a replacement back in October, but if I'm honest it's probably not up to your exacting standards, but it was low mileage and cheap. No one else bid for it on eBay, as it had an EML light on / suspect DPF, but as you know I don't see that as a problem.

BTW, HDi execs only come in 110 & 136 flavours, all have rear electric windows
Good luck with the hunt.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

waue, the hpi in question is Dai's drop him a pm he'll tell you a hell of a lot more about it than i can.
I've had my 7 seater for just over a year now but not once have we used the back seats partly because the first thing i said to my wife's family was "you won't want anyone sitting in there that's where the dog lives".... that was my way of putting a stop to the wife being family taxi before it started.
Thing is i know the seats are there if WE need them and am more than happy with that... Shame you had to prove you needed them the hard way, wonder where your old 406 is now.

Hi Eric. Been up your way a few times over the past few months with the new job, but it's always been 1 day trips for meetings & using the boss's car (Quashqai), so I've had to be back in time for him to go home. Had a quick peek at your new one. Looks nice. I see you're not too keen on the colour, but I quite like it. Like your old one, it's not too common. Not especially looking for an Exec, but it would be ideal. Most post 2000 LXs upwards have electric rears anyway, so should be ok if I find one.Doggy wrote:Hi Stu, nice to hear from you again.

Dai's is probably one of the tidiest around, but that over-complicated HPi engine is a killer for somebody like me that doesn't do much of my own mechanical work. Plus the beige interior screws me for retrofitting the rear seats.scotty73 wrote:waue, the hpi in question is Dai's drop him a pm he'll tell you a hell of a lot more about it than i can.

Haven't seen my old one since it was readvertised on Autotrader shortly after I sold it. Never did find out why as they didn't ever answer the phone, so God knows how they sold it. We used the rear seats a few odd times, but the thing I like about them was that you could pretend they weren't there if you didn't want to use them as it wasn't a "common knowledge" 7 seater in the way that Zafiras etc are.
I've been contemplating a few different options, but all seem to come with their own associated headaches;
307s (Particle filter removal adds £400 to price)
807/C8/Ulysse (Extra weight & awkward engine access means labour costs go up)
V70s (Diesels expensive & I'd lose my license with a 2.4 Turbo)
Mercedes E Class (Diesels expensive & they all rust)
Grand Scenic (it's a Renault - say no more)
Doblo (long shot as you can get 7 seat versions, but they're always the 1.3 diesel & I'm not sure if the extras could be retrofitted if you could even find a set for sale)
Zafiras (only the Elegance has electric rears & the DTi has fuel pump issues)
I'm under no illusions here. I had a nightmare looking for a 7 seater before I stumbled across the 406 in Asda car park one day. But they're not likely to descend on us much before Summer, so I've got a bit of time to look.

Re: Looking For Clean Low Mileage HDi Estate - 110 Or 2.2
Was going to look at an 806 Thursday (which the seller told me on Sunday was the first day that it would be available for viewing) but got a phone call today to tell me that somebody else was coming before me because "I hadn't committed to anything"? Can't really blame him as when you're selling a car you'd just sell it to the first person that turns up with the cash, but I'm not going to commit to buying without seeing first. Been caught too many times by the Ebay deposit brigade.
Got the week off while little man's on half term & having some days out with him, so may be able to take a look at something in the area. Was planning on combining the 806 with a trip to Bovington Tank Museum (& maybe Monkey World). Will probably still do that as it may still be available, but I won't get my hopes up. At the moment there's 2 Zafiras that I like the look of in Reading & a 90k 406 estate & 2.4T V70 in Fareham. There's a Hovercraft place in Lee On Solent that we could go to along with the 2 in Fareham, but I can't think of much around Reading that I could take him to. Anybody got any ideas?

That seems to have been the general rule based on the ones I've bought. The good ones never asked for a penny before I arrived to pick the car up.lozz wrote:idont blaim you waue,

I always thought that the Ulysse used the same engines as the 806/Synergie? Have been toying with the idea of a Doblo though. Thing is, there aren't many of the 7 seat versions & they're always 1.3 diesels (slow). If I could confirm that the extra seats can be fitted into any passenger Doblo I'd go for a 1.9 JTD & go the retrofit route, but even then I reckon I'd have a long wait for a set of the rearmost seats to turn up for sale.lozz wrote: on subject of Mpv's ithink if iwent back that route, id go for something JTD powerd, more than likely fiat badged,

Don't know how I missed that one as I usually use the "View Unread Posts" option. At the time that you posted, I was actually out of the market as I'd done a deal on a Zafira, but as it stands now I could be back to square one due to issues with my prospective purchase.
Once I've had my deposit refunded I may give you a shout on that if it's still available. I've been trying to keep under 100k, but yours has only just tipped it & the recent clutch/flywheel would be a bit of a bonus.
