406 sri turbo mot failiure

Post by jason j »

my p reg 406 turbo, engine runs perfect and body work is in good condition failed mot on front brake discs (below legal limit) and rear suspension bushes.

Only thing missing is the standard dump valve as it got broken when some twat took it off.

car drives perfect apart from turbo will not spool up due to there being no dump valve.

sensible offers as needs to go by thursday ( scrap yard have offered £250 as a ball park) ideal if you can do the work for a cheap car or if you want engine loom etc for a conversion.

Birmingham area.

It'd be a shame to have it scrapped - it looks lovely (apart from where someone's welded a baked beans tin to the exhaust :P ). If I had somewhere to park it off-road I'd take it off your hands for spares, especially as I've got to fork out for new tyres next month, and your alloys look a lot better looked after than mine!

One request though, if you do end up scrapping it, can you scavenge a small piece of throttle linkage off it for me? I can do you pics, but it's a short rod about 4" long with a ball joint at either end which is attached to the circular disc the accelerator cable ends on (under the bonnet). Tenner?

If they are only brakes and bushes, then why don't you fix it??? Cost of repairs... like under £100 approx if you do it yourself!

What tax is on it?

Have you tried to block off the hose to see if the turbo spools ?

yes runs perfect mate had a bailey DV on it but took it off to ut on other car.

Already got one sri turbo and bought the second one before consulting the wife  she likes the white one best so the grey one goes.

Do not have the time to sort we are moving to manchester pretty soon and need to clear stuff away.

James no tax or mot but have the fail sheet to show how easy it will go through its next mot.

Easily do a 200 mile drive even without a dump valve fitted ( would advise putting one on tho its faster :P ) the only reason it will struggle is the cooling fans do not always kick in niz reckons £45 for new motors but as long as you are not stationary for ages( 10 min plus) the temp is rock steady and comes right back down once moving again and sits just under half.

James,

For £250 its well worth it... I have a bosch std bov you can have if you need it or a cossie grp A BOV??

Cost you a max of £150 - 200 to fix then away you go! Get modding the turbo !
