Wanted: storage for a 406.

Post by rwb »

I'm not ready to part with the 406, so it needs storing. It's taxed while the end of February, so I have some thinking time...

The best offer I have so far is £8/week in a garage in Farnborough.

Any equal or better offers?

I can fully understand you wanting to keep hold of the 6, I did they same for about 6 weeks. But when you're used to the '7 I don't think your attachment will be as strong. I'd take the £8.00/wk and see how you feel after 4 or 5 weeks? then sell the 6.

Are you bothered that you won't like the 7 and need the old car in reserve?

Remember if you're keeping it taxed, you'll also have to keep it insured :(

I thought that's only if it's on a public road?

Are we saying that you've got to Insure it being sat in a garage? that don't sound right? can't you surrender the road tax and SORN it?

Yes :D

You can download the SORN form and the tax refund form (V14) from the website above and send them off together.

If storing the car in a garage you do not need to insure it, but you must SORN it and surrender the tax.

Know I'll probably get shot for this, but I reckon you should just sell it Rich. You've bought the 407 now & you're only going to get stung for storage & insurance on the 406 with the added bonus of it possibly being a bit moody from being stored if you do try to use it again at a later date (seized brakes, flat battery, warning lights etc).

Sell the 406 as soon as you can sensibly get a good price (you're hopefully far enough away from Christmas to get a reasonable price) & learn to live with the 407. If after a while you miss the 406 you can always buy another one - they aren't rocking horse sh*t yet. Yes, you'd probably lose loads on the 407 if you sell it on, but that's going to happen if you decide to go back to your 406 anyway.

Stuart: I value your input since you swap motors so relatively frequently -- we're opposite ends of the spectrum! I think you and welly are right that it must go.
I see that the only sensible thing to do is sell, so I'm going to give that a go.
And it's really, really stupid to be emotionally attached to a machine.

Even so, Plan Z has always been a 1.9 which is definitely something to look forward to. So when the HID headlights, hard drive MP3 thing, and impossibly unfathomable electronics make it a write-off in 18 months....

...which is hardly giving the new one a fair crack of the whip is it? It's a truly excellent machine, but it's not a better 406. This is the first time that I've had a new car that isn't in every way immeasurably better than the last.

So, back to storage: Lozz: are you near Manchester? That's actually good for me since my mummy and daddy are in Huddersfield so I can abuse their hospitality
Bristol is also good as it's a relatively easy railway journey (if there is such a thing).
Just to be clear: I'm not expecting a favour -- don't be shy about laying the law down about what you want from me.
