Decision made - time to break my 2.2Hdi Exec

Post by GingerMagic »

Well, after long deliberations and head over heart decisions, the time has come for me to break/strip my old 406. :(

Its a Monaco Blue ( KMWC ) 2.2Hdi, de-fap, de-EGR. 194,000 miles, good panels ( except the tailgate ) with all the usual executive toys inc. fully working Sat-Nav, ESP

Almost every part is available including the very rare tan leather interior.

( Fan assembly, intercooler, swirl flap connection all allocated, cruise control fitted to replacement car, backplates kept as spares )

If anyone is interested in any parts, please feel free to reply to the topic or PM me.

It has an oil leak between the engine and the gearbox.

The part to replace is £9.95 from europarts - but you need to remove the clutch/DMF to do the fix, and may as well fit a new clutch/DMF afterwards.

Parts are £300 minimum, labour is approx 6 hours @ £40 per hour.....

This is a bit much for a high mileage example, it has worked out cheaper to simply replace the car with a low mileage FSH example.....

The nearside rear wing does have some dents/scrapes - although not as bad as yours - I was kinda hoping it was the o/s you were after as this one is excellent.....

I'll take a photo of the wing you are after so you can decide what to do - I didn't realise they were detachable...?

Light cluster is available though.

photo would be good.

Your comment about them being detachable ???? Now I don,t actually know, I was just presuming that they would be bolted on.

Would be good if someone could throw some light on it for me.

Cheers.

Just went onto Service box - yes it is a separate section but looks a bit time consuming to remove - although you are welcome to come and have a go..... :cheesy:

You can see the long dent/scratch, but it was like this when I got the car - no broken paint or anything.

I haven't figured out yet how to copy the service box details into a thread yet - maybe someone can chip in at this moment, its under 'Bodywork - Rear Wing Inner and Moulding'

I always thought the rear quarters needing cutting and welding to swap where it ties into the roof and sills?
Or is that just the saloon?

GingeM,,I think I have to agree with Gumsby.
Have changed Front discs and Pads tonight and had a good look round whilst doing it, I think the rear quarter is welded and or pop riveted into the rear boot end.

Definitely looks to be a bodyshop job, more than I could tackle anyway.

I think I will let the insurance write it off, which they will i,m sure, and then let me bodywork mates have a repair on it.

Interested in the light though. How much for it sent up to the Midlands if poss, cheers.

Yes you are probably right, Service Box lists the wing as a separate part, doesn't show how its fixed.....

Kelv,

Can I have swirl flaps control arm linkage please? The bit that connects the ball joint on the flaps shaft to the acctuator arm's hooked end.

I'm sure if I spent a few minutes thinking about it I could come up with some other stuff that would be nice to have, but that is all i *need* currently
