Wanted Clarion PU-2473A for spares

Post by Lee1978 »

Hi all, as per the title, I need a little help in finding a Clarion PU-2473A head unit for spares. These are the CD stereos found as standard in some of our cars. Unfortunately they aren't the best, the radios often loose reception and the CD players frequently fail.
I'm looking for a unit with a good radio, nothing else really matters as long as the radio reception is still good.
Hopefully someone has a suitable candidate that hasn't found its way to the bin yet!

I will probably be replacing mine with a Pioneer shortly for the reason you mention, I did change it once before so I may have one about, I will have a look.

Peter, did you have any problems swapping yours? I heard they were coded to the car and not a simple swap?
My radio tuner has failed in my head unit so I'm looking to repair it with donor parts so as not to need it re-coding

Hi Lee,
First off welcome to the forum :cheesy:
is yours a D9 or D8, I had to replace mine due to the code not being recognised by my ecu & the fxxxxxg thing beeping at me all the time.
I dropped lucky & found a N.O.S one at a dealers for £40, you do indeed need to code it to the car, this is done with pp2000.
So you either need some one with that close by  or it's a trip to the stealers.
Hope this is of some help DDD.

Thanks diesel, I have the D9. Hopefully Peter will be back with some good news but if rescuing my stereo doesn't pan out I may need to find out more about coding. I have access to Autel's maxisys 905 mini, I wonder if that's capable of coding one? It's a pretty comprehensive tool.

Hi Lee & welcome aboard. 8)

I very much doubt it will be possible to code it with anything other than PP2000, but the good news is that quite a few of us have a system and don't mind helping out.

Whereabouts are you? (It can help to add your location via the User Control Panel).

Thanks Doggy, I'm in Notts. Good thinking, I'll update my profile later. Hopefully it won't come down to needing a new stereo, I understand the CD player fails frequently on these head units so I'm hoping a donor unit is out there somewhere!

This is most likely dry joints, but it is an advanced repair, as removing that daughter board from the main board without damage is very hard work. I replaced the tuner control I.C. on my unit which temporarily restored operation, but then the symptoms have intermittently come back, so there are other reasons for failure. Because the radio is coded I cannot work with it on the bench which is a major handicap. Holiday this week so hopefully will take the workshop in to the car and report back!

A lad at work had a CD failure, turned out to be a slipping gear which prevented the mechanism entering play mode. It was a fairly straight forward repair but again fiddly! Still working 8 months later. I have pictures and video somewhere will try to dig them up.

That's the puppy, I need a donor head unit to harvest the radio tuner board from, we're on the same wavelength:)
I agree, it's near impossible to diagnose anything precisely with these head units, not being able to power them up outside the car is a major headache, cheers clarion!

I haven't had a chance to look yet but will tomorrow. I swapped the CD mechanism over from one I bought and that didn't work for long. I had the same problem with my C5 but have now fitted a Pioneer which is brilliant compared with the original.

Hi

I have found one but it says model PU-2184 A. Its out of a 2001 2.0. Hdi estate. Is that any good?

Thanks Peter! I'm not sure whether your stereo will be useful or not. I've taken a look online and your stereo looks identical to mine outwardly, I wonder what the difference is? Knowing my luck the different model number signifies a different radio board.
I'll see what I can find out about your stereo. Again, your efforts are much appreciated.
