WANTED: Engine Crane.

Post by munfred »

To get my rallye engine out of the 406 boot.
The guy I picked up the lump from lifted it in on a crane but I dont want to try and take it out without one in case I damage the 406............................

Willing to pay a reasonable price, or even better if someone who is fairly local who can lend me one for 2 weeks.

or I could just leave it in the 406 and somehow try to convince people that I have a twin engined diesel/petrol 406.

cheers

You could hire one from Speedy Hire for the day or so.

Or, surely 2 or 3 of you could lift it out :?

Either way you don't want to be driving around too long with an engine in the boot

I assume it's an estate munfred? How much does this engine weigh? 2 people and some ingenious use of materials "lying around" and I'm sure you'll get it out without damage. :?

Good Luck

Funny... I'm also looking for an engine crane.

Looks like my Sump is leaking again and my clutch desperately needs changed. So, with being on a budget tighter than that of a student... I'm resorting to doing it myself.

well 2 of us found it quite difficult to move the block about once we lowered it into the boot. (its an estate).
Im not sure how much it weighs, but without the inlet and exhaust manifolds I have managed to lift the same kind of 1.3 block and move it by myself. there isnt enough room for more than 2 people to try and lift it out of the back. I have got a A frame swing with a winch on it that I used last time I took an engine out, which will do me fine for the conversion, but I thought I might treat myself to a crane to get it out of the 406 with as little damage as possible, to make the transplant a little easier, and so that I can leave my old engine hanging up as I plan to play about with it a little and see what I can do with it.

£150ish is the cheapest I can find by Egay, but I am hoping to do it this week or next week as I am off work because of the school holidays. :cheesy:

I usually hate hiring stuff, and buy stuff if I need it.....probably why I have so much crap lying around the house. HSS want about £50ish for me to hire a crane.

the engine has so far travelled about 300 miles wedged in by sections of my tow bar, and rope strapping it to the back seat
