Do you mean a 2.1, thats an XUD engine, they are pretty old and scarce now, or is it a 2.2 Hdi you are looking for?

As a main car, or a donor vehicle?
The Citroen XM had the same engine.
2003 2.2hdi estate - mine
1998 Volvo 940 auto estate - also mine
2019 Citroen C3 something - the wife's

I'm after the best 1 I can find. I appreciate there's not many about but am after the whole car. Thought about getting an XM but the XM's complexity scares me! Not after a engine donor am after a moted car if I can find 1. Cheers

I thought about a Xantia many years ago and decided to get an XM instead as they have similar complexities but more room, both inside and mechanical access.I ran them for about 15 years and did a lot of miles.

When the abundant supply of them ran out I switched to 406 estates which I think come a good second and are as you say somewhat simpler.
I ran them for 10 years and must say they are probably the most reliable vehicles I have ever had. We disposed of the last one, my wifes last year on account of the brake servo failing - that is a difficult job and the car had done over 200k miles. I still got 250 pounds for it on ebay.

We now run C5 X7 estates with steel springs for simplicity and they still ride better than anything else I have tried. If you avoid the hydropnumatic suspension and auto box they they are surprisingly reliable. The 2.0 Hdi engine seems bombproof as did the one in the 406.

Hi Peter thanks for the info regarding the citroens and peugeots. Searching for 1 of these cars is proving quite difficult due to the number that have been scrapped now. Hope I find something...

Hi gingermagic thanks for letting me know. I saw it myself and have been speaking with the owner but details of it are a little sketchy. It failed its last mot 4 times I think before passing and he has no receipts for the work being fixed. I'll PM you.
