2001 406 GTX 2.0 ESTATE AUTO

Post by dave7732 »

Hello, everyone in 406OC,

I have just ordered a brand new 508 SW which is due for delivery at the end of April 2022. Consequently, around that time, my 2001 406 GTX 2.0 estate auto will become surplus to requirements.

I'm posting this message to sound out if anybody out there knows anyone who might be interested in giving it a good home? It's a 51 reg in Vulcan Red (dark metallic red) with cream interior trim and has done 86,660 miles (as of today).

All of the valuation websites I've tried say it's too old to put a figure on, except We Buy Any Car.com, but they're offering a lot less than I think it's worth.

As I said, I'd probably be looking to sell around the beginning of May so if anybody is interested in making an offer or having a look, please reply. I'm based in Sutton in Surrey.

Thanks very much.

Best regards,

Dave

Hi Dave, I’m interested - been looking for a petrol estate since our old one ate its brake servo in 2019. Is it possible to view yours? We’re down in Sussex.

Hello, Nick,

Thanks very much for your reply. So sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the forum didn't alert me to your message and I'm sorry to say I haven't looked at it for a couple of weeks.

Yes, of course it would be possible for you to view the car. I'm not sure if we're allowed to give out addresses or phone numbers on this forum to arrange a viewing.

I'll send you a private message with my address so we can arrange for you to come and see it.

Will be in touch again soon.

Best regards,
Dave

  Are we the baddies? :( As far as I know there are no rules for posting contact details on this here forum. However remember this is a public forum, it's not behind a firewall or owt so if you do post contact details there's a chance some nutcase is going to call you in the middle of the night or turn up on your doorstep. Pm is best.

Good luck with the sale btw. I hope the 508 sw fits the bill too. Actually the new ones look pretty sweet so I'd love to hear a review :cheesy:

Hi, Steve,

Apologies for using the words 'not allowed' in my message. I was writing it in a bit of a hurry, as I was 2 weeks late in responding to Nick's message. Perhaps the word 'inadvisable' may have been more appropriate? :? I've now sent Nick a private message with my details.

Thanks very much for your good wishes for the sale of my car. The 508 SW GT Premium is pretty gorgeous. There are plenty of reviews of the 508 SW GT Line (an earlier version, I believe) on You Tube but I think they're all from before the hybrid was released, so I'd be happy to post my impressions on here when I've had a bit if experience with my new car. :)

Cheers for now,

Dave

No worries, it's all good 8)

I was more thinking of from the perspective of a former 406 driver  Are you saying yours is a hybrid?

Ok, Steve, no problem, I can do that.

Yes, I have gone for the hybrid. I've had my 406 for 14 years and anticipate keeping the 508 for at least that long. The way things are going environmentally, it wouldn't have felt right to go for a new petrol-only car so I feel the hybrid was the only choice really.

Dave,

If you've not sold it & don't do Facebook I can list it on there for you if you like ?

What sort of price are you hoping for, it's low mileage but the petrol, auto will mean a smaller marketplace.

Hi, DDD,

Thanks very much for your message and the offer to list my car on Facebook.

No, I haven't sold it yet but I am intending to post it on Facebook and probably Auto Trader as well.

As I can't let it go until my new car arrives end of April/early May, I'm in no hurry.

Having looked on Auto Trader to see what's being asked for similar cars I was looking at around £2,000.

I'm hoping to find someone who wants a rare car as I understand it's one of only ten GTX 2.0 litre petrol auto estates still registered in the UK!

Best regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

No worries,

You'll have a very good marketplace on the Facebook Peugeot & 406 groups.

I wouldn't be so sure just on Facebook marketplace but list it there as well by all means.

As I said your car will have a smaller marketplace due to the petrol & auto.

Thanks very much for the advice, DDD.

It is now on Marketplace and the 'Cars for sale in Surrey & Hampshire' groups.

I'll put it on the two groups you mention tomorrow.

I would just like to confirm that my car is still for sale and is now being advertised on Auto Trader and the 'Peugeot', 'Peugeot 406 Owners' and 'Peugeot 406 Lovers' groups on Facebook. I have now taken it off of Facebook Marketplace due to too many weird responses.

Here are some photos for anyone who is seriously interested.

Hi, all,

Just to close this thread, I sold my 406 on 13th April 2022 and was given £2,000 for it by a very appreciative gentleman, even though my asking price for it at the time was £1,595!

Still awaiting delivery of the 508 SW. Latest tracker says it should be delivered to the dealer around 22nd May so I'm expecting to pick it up around 31st May.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Well done :cheesy:

It's unusual to have cloth seats with the black lower dash, and that Sat Nav screen is excellent.!!

I hope the new owner will take good care of it
