Hi Peter, I forgot you were in Dorset too...

I may be interested in a few bits and bobs just to get what was missing when I got my 406 - mostly bits of trim if I'm honest.....

Can I send you a PM about what's available?

Many thanks,

Hi Kelv

I have had mostly mechanical parts off it, I think most of the trim is intact. Its been parked in the field since the electronics gave up about 10 years ago but still looks nearly new! Let me know what you are looking for.

Thanks for the response Peter. The items i need are really small; a little wire behind the drivers airbag in the steering wheel and the black plastic bit to the right of the info display. If you have them would you mind posting them as i'm Nottingham?

Thanks Peter, turns out i need a length of wiring too, it's the wiring with the two airbag plugs that go into the com2000 (presuming your 406 has this).
the wiring runs under the steering column cowling, right under the bottom of the column.

I've been and had a look, I'm not sure what this plastic to the right of the display is looks like part of the dashboard unless you mean the radio surround which doesn't appear to be there although it might be somewhere else in the car. I haven't taken the steering wheel off yet so don't know what that looks like. The airbag wiring is there but needs a fair bit of dismantling to get at it, getting the carpet out is a job in itself and as I'm 83 I'm not up to it just at the moment.

Don't know if mine is the right car, its a 'Y' reg march 2001 Estate.

It might not be the right car Peter, i'm no expert but i think the later 406 (mine's 2002) was slightly different. The parts i need are...
The length of wire under the steering column that has the blue airbag plug, grey BSI plug and another airbag plug that im not sure of the colour, it's easy to spot as it has a fabric braiding over it. Photos attached.

The small wire inside the steering wheel i need connects to the grey plug pictured below, the spade connector on the back of the airbad and the screw im pointing to in the photos below. The grey plug then sits in the recess i've photographed (it would be nice to see how the wire was routed)

The plastic trim i need is the little plastic piece to the side of the info display, i put a red button there to serve as my horn when my com2000 went wrong

I think Peters car is a semi mux model, so although it has the BSI it's more basic and doesn't have the Comms unit - I think the Comms is 51 plate and newer ...

If your Comms is screwed then there was a seller on eBay that reconditioned them ( I think his user name was Trustme )

The plastic trim next to the MFD should fit fine on your car if Peter still has it

There are some Comms on eBay - not many variations but as far as I'm aware as long as it's the same generation with matching stalks ( auto lights, rear wash/wipe etc ) then it's okay.

Spotted these on eBay...

I'm not sure of your budget but last time I used the reconditioning service I paid £30 plus postage, and that was a few years ago.

Edited to add extra information.
