Selling my 406 HDI 2.0

Post by jps26 »

What can i say love the car but the fuel and the tax is killing me, so i have to sell it and get a cheaper to run car :(

still if any of you guys(or gals) are interested just message or post (thought ild give first dibs to the owners club :D )

Basics:

2.0 litre HDI Executive
new break pads (and parts on rear break assembly) and low pressure fuel pump as of april
mot till dec (its gonna fly through, only good thing  )
tax till end of month
Has: Alloys(all well legal tires), ABS, AC, Airbags (drive and passenger) electrics windows all round, and on mirrors, cream interior and stock cd player.

Problems:
Has the airbag light (when you move the seats it flashes)
Has "break fluid level low" even though it has new pads, wires and fluid, (a quick fix of moving the hand break up and down does fix for a couple of days but then it comes back.)
Has a chip in the diver view just above the bottom of the screen in the middle.

In the UK wiltshire looking at £900 ono (or trade if anyone has a small engined car)
so there you have it my car up for sale :(

Forgive me here but aren't you already driving a very economical and cheap car :?

The 406 has got to be amongst the cheapest cars out there to run! 40+ MPG, skinny tyres, doesn't complain if you skip the odd service, exhausts that last years, keeps on running even with faults that would kill VAG's and BM's.

If you ask me (which you haven't, sorry  ) anything else you could buy for sub £1000.00 will be a whole heap of trouble and if you spend more towards a smaller engined car then that's gonna cost you more in real terms over keeping the 406.

I concur with the road tax thing but that's only £200.00 a year - the cheapest road tax is Zero or £35.00 isn't it? but those kind of cars don't come cheap - so where's the savings????

Not having a go or anything it's just that with these expected difficult times ahead maybe it's better the devil you know..... :|

Yea well i bought the car for £1000 and im spending too much cash on keeping it running also if i was getting 40mpg ild be happy atm im getting closer to 26mpg (and im NOT a boy racer, change at 2000rpm smooth no wheel spinning.).

Yes it has good grip but im always worrying about crashing it (as im in wiltshire and do a lot of country road driving) so going with a cheap runabout (looking at 1.1 ford fiesta mrk2) means i dont have to worry so much.

also old cars i can work on, but with the HDI engine i cant touch it (way above my skill) i do my own servicing and its hasnt missed any since ive had it.

Alas i should have listened to my dad and just gone with the small car to start with :|

And there was me lamenting the fact I'm only getting 42.2mpg because of all the traffic queues I seem to be sitting in these days (I just checked, my average speed is 26mph  ). I think there's something seriously wrong with your motor!

Amen to buying something easy to work on, the trouble is there's not many cars like that around any more, even the Fester is covered with management and emissions so you'll probably find you still need special skills and tools to work on it as well. Unless the idea is to buy one with a carburettor on it...

Last point: If I was in an accident I'd rather be in the Peugoet that the Frod. I'm sure my dad would prefer that too :cheesy:

The airbag and brake fluid lights are fairly standard, cheap-to-fix nuisances, the winscreen's a shame though (window cover + brick?) There's a lot more could have gone wrong...

Anyway, best of luck with the sale, btw what year is it?

yea i paid £1000, spent £600 since getting the thing in march on parts going kaput (not including running costs like oils, filters etc), oh and spending way to much on fuel when i was driving sensibly (not boy racing, wheel spinning, aggressive gear changes etc)

Im saving cash paying for petrol on a 1.8 so the turbo must not have been set up right (getting 30+ mpg with my escort.)

oh and my insurance is lower for some reason even tho the 406 was safer (abs, side air bags) newer and a lot less boyracer (the escorts a 3 door :) ).
