V Reg LX For Sale

Post by GJ1 »

Hi all, I have for sale (very cheap) a 1999 406 LX.

Very good tyres all round, new coil pack and plugs. Has had new clutch parts fitted also.

Reason for sale is that it is not firing on all cylinders and will not pass an MOT due to this. I changed the coil pack and plugs but that didn't make any difference. (so have the original one that is probably still good, plus a new one) I have been quoted between £400 to £700 to put it right so this car will only appeal to someone who can do this work themselves. I did plan to get the work done but for £1000 I bought my neighbours car off him so need to get rid of the 406

To be openly honest, if you are looking for a daily driver and dont care about the scrapes down the near side and can do this work,or just after one for spares then you can bag yourself a bargain.

Tax till end of June, no Mot but will drive away ok on just the 3 cylinders.

Will someone make me an offer to get it off my hands? Any offer considered.

It really is too good to send to the scrappy.

Being involved with another forum like this one for a different marque, I thought I would give you guys a chance first before I put it up on fleabay.

Thanks for letting me drop in.

FORGOT TO MENTION THAT IT IS ONLY FIRING ON 3 of the 4 plugs I suppose that will mean something to you guys?

You missed out some important details:

What engine?
What mileage?
What body style - saloon/estate/coupe?
What colour?
Where is it? - crucially important at the bottom end of the market!
PICTURES!
Also, is it a D8 or D9? D9s have a mesh radiator grille whereas D8s have a horizontal slat

To be honest once someone's looking at a car with faults present then you're at the mercy of their bartering and you can only hope for a couple of hundred pounds really i.e. it needs to be *cheap* for them to take the risk. In fine order you'd be lucky to bag £700.00 these days.

To me I'd be wanting to drive it away for £250 notes really I suppose (please don't take that as an offer here).

Sometimes you can make more money breaking it up for spares (if you have time/room) :|

I also suspect the actual fault with the miss-fire will be a cheap fix in the end as the Petrol engine is normally well behaved.

Good luck

GJ1; try putting some KSeal in the coolant.
I had exactly the same fault and suspected coolant leakage into one of the bores having replaced everything to do with spark, threw some kseal in and touch wood it hasn't happened since.
You can get the stuff off ebay cheaper than their own website.
I know I will have to do the head gasket eventually but as a quick fix this seems to do the job.

Hi again, thanks for the advice re kseal etc but this car needs to go. Sorry I forgot the important bits

Location: Horley, Surrey, Just 5 mins from Gatwick
Mileage: 124976
Colour: Silver
Engine: 2.0l
Body: Saloon
Pictures : http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff67/g4sbz/406/

What is this car worth? I am happy for someone to get a bargain if only for spares but will after a bit of engine tweeking run for many years to come. I just don't have the knowledge or time to do it myself.

Car sent for recyling. :(

Happy with the £60 I got for it as it's now out of the way.

Thanks for your advice guys, just sorry someone here didn't pick up a bargain.
