oh, and re: dummy button on wiper stalk. There's actually something there with a bit of give, but doesn't seem to be acting as a button, maybe it's stuck...

If it doesn't move it's a dummy and all you have is an external temperature gauge. Or you did once :( . I wonder if the no trip computer on a diesel D8 also applies to an HDi :?

I have a trip computer, it's in the dashboard under the speedo :P

well, maybe I'm misunderstanding. I have a total mileage readout, and a trip mileage readout.
1999 (D8) 406, 2.0L HDi.

no. would be nice, but i wrote an app for windows mobile and it does the calcs for me every fill up anyway...

And where does this put the HDi in my D8 debate?

I remeber people saying the paint code could be on top of the strut top, and I had no other codes identifiable on my car except the 6 digitcode on top of the strut top, and always assumed that was the code.
Ah well, something learned today :D

I got my information regarding the date of the first HDi's from this press release I saw a while back
[10 DEC 98] PEUGEOT PRESS RELEASE
The New Peugeot 406 HDi

The first car in the Peugeot range to benefit from 'Common Rail' diesel technology, the 406 HDi (High Pressure Direct Injection) will go on sale in January 1999.

It makes Peugeot one of the world's first volume car manufacturers to offer common rail engines as part of its range and demonstrates the company's commitment to maintain its lead in diesel technology.

Saloon and estate versions of the 406 executive car range will be equipped with the common rail system via a new engine - the DW 10 ATED. This is a 1997cc engine which is capable of producing 110 bhp.
