Advantages of cruise control

As title really. I am thinking of fitting it to my 2.2 Sri estate.

Oh it's awesome, really helps you drift off for a nap on the motorway. Priceless for long, tiring journeys, especially late at night which is often about the only time you'll actually use it since otherwise traffic means you'll be flicking it on-off on-off...

I very rarely use it because as soon as you set the speed it then becomes unsuitable because of the rapidly changing and very busy roads.

Only of use on a *very* quiet motorway.......

It's a good idea if you regularly drive through Urup but a bit pointless in GB. Oh, and it won't drive the car as economically as you do.

I suppose if you're happy to cruise at, say 55mph, then you won't be wearing the buttons out too quickly.

I use it every day and would never buy another car without it. If you want to drive everywhere at 80+ forget it though, as the others said you'll be cancelling it as soon as you set it. I like to waft around at somewhere between 60 and 70 and often go for many miles without touching a pedal.

Then again i live in God's country where the roads are obviously much quieter

I loved my cruise control on my last motor,

but cant see much point to it in the uk, driving during the day and if you enjoy driving on or around the speed limit.

Its a fantastic addition if you do long trans-euro type trips or a lot of night time cruising on the motorways below the speed limit otherwise I personally wouldnt say it was worth the hassle of fitting , unless of course you're just bored and fancy a project

i hate to disagree with the other people but i think cruise control is ace if you doing long journeys.all these people saying you cant use it must be driving at 100 mph.i had it on my last car and used it as much as i could dont know if it uses more fuel but if it does i dont think its much more and most new trucks have it and they need to save fuel.
its also good on long 50 mph roads wih lots of cameras yes you can drive faster but you watching for cameras so not concentrating then haveing to brake which uses more fuel anyway.

The thing about fuel usage is an interesting point, if you concentrate on driving economically you'll get better mpgs, things like building up speed downhill then easing off uphill, lots of lift and coast and lots of carrying speed through corners etc, the cruise can't read the road so doesn't do that stuff. Having said that most people don't drive like that (it takes a lot of concentration) and in fact tend to be unnecessarily heavy footed, so they'd probably save money using the cruise more.

I got it on my 407 and 308 and wouldn't be without it. So useful. On a flattish clear road it drives the car more economically than I can, it makes sticking to speed limits a doddle, and it makes long journeys a little more relaxing. It's adaptive as well, so speed and it'll automatically return to what you've set it to, unless you touch the brakes, change gear or disengage it.

I think if you have it you'll find a use for it, but as for retro-fitting it, it's really not worth it unless you spend time on clearer roads - either god's country (which he travels on his Harley no doubt) or abroad. Go use it in the US, that's the sort of roads it's meant for

I've got it on my 406 and my Golf, and simply wouldn't buy another car without it.

It's no use at all on roads like the M6 or M1 in the daytime, but on a quiet motorway it's fantastic and takes a lot of the effort out of driving (very) long distances.

It's INVALUABLE for going through SPECS cameras too and lets you take your eyes off the speedo and put them on the road. Seriously, I never bother looking at my speedo after setting cruise through SPECS, whereas without cruise I'm checking my speed every 5 seconds

Surprisingly it still works just as well at 160mph on quiet unrestricted autobahns where you can slap it on and drive for hours, well, until the fuel tank runs dry, which at that speed (8mpg) is about 45 minutes
