on my 2.2 sri estate, can someone please tell me what it is between the air filter housing and the slam panel, to the right of the radiator?
it is connected to the air filter housing, but only has one hole. whats it for, is it needed? if i remove it, can that be a way of getting more air into the engine?
Edit by Dai: Fixed the pic for you mate

Did we get the right picture here? There's an "air resonator" on the diagram (8), is this it?
Yeah, I know it's a 2.0, there's no 2.2 diagram on ppc but it's the same. However, the coupé doesn't have it
well i've taken the resonator off and i am proud to report (lol) an increase in roar when throttle is wide open and revs are above 2500, and it may be my imagination, but it seems to pick up a little better too.
gonna keep it off for a bit and see how it goes. the increase in roar is no where near annoying and if driven sensibly, there is no difference.
I will be buying a length of 'induction' pipe so i can route some more cold air to the airbox. little job for the weekend!

Had a look in my engine bay this morning as I was filling up the screen wash tank.
I don't have one of these things on my airbox. Mine's the 1.8i 16v D9.
