Guys, will the 110 ecu an immobilser work on a 90hp engine ??? thanks

i dont think so, ecus are funny things they need the right engines, and even then a computer is still usually needed to set them up right for the engine, but the correct ecu isnt hard to find

I have the ecu in the car with the immbobiliser an its now running, BUT it wont go above 2800 revs in any gear, any ideas anyone,,, also I have an engine management light on.. which i didnt have before. ???

looks like its gone into limphome mode as the ecu isnt matched to the car.

Go to a scrapyard and pull out an ecu and immobiliser from a 90bhp car, check it all works before pulling it out, otherwise get someone with a computer to program it correctly

What were the problems that led you to believe the ecu was at fault ??

Puggy.. well i have a long list, I bought the car 4 weeks ago, 2 days after purchase it was showing signs of flashing lights on ma dash board, after starting an stoping a few times, it would then not start,,, i had a diagnostic on it, it gave me 2 fault codes, low pressure in fuel and immboliser. I took it to a auto electrician,, he said he bypassed the Imbobiliser, an because of the low pressure it needed a High pressure rail pump, so I got one... did it start... NO, while in there anyway he changed teh timing belts, he then said the solenoid on the side of the pump was at fault sometimes it worked sometimes it didnt.. so I remewed that with a new one, brand new I add.. did it start...NO.he then got a diagnostic on it, he said,, it needs a New computer imbobiliser an a key so that they could change the chip... did it start....... YES, and it runs, but only to 2800 revs.. the car which the stuff came from I dont know if it was a 110 or a 90.. mines is a 90... the mechy, said it had 3 more sensors in it...
so come Monday hes gonna get the diagnostic boy onit again,, can he only detect faults or can he programme it to work properly ... willit still run if its a 110 working on a 90 rapier car ???? in the first instance,, i think he has just changed the chip,,changed the imbobiliser an ecu an started it... would it start an run at that or would he need to programme it when he fitted it... am a bit in the dark here an dont know if hes flanneling me... is it possibble to just change these electrical components an turn the key and it will start or not ???

Hi John , not having much luck mate , i would go along with what's already been
said about the ecu i dont think one from a 110 would be suitable for a 90 and it has
gone into limp home mode . The 110 ecu would be set up to take into account the
fact that a 110 has a intercooler and no doubt different fuelling and intake because
of this . As regards the high pressure pump packing in its not a problem that i've
heard mentioned on here before . Sounds more like the problem originated with
the immobilizer and now thats been by-passed i would be tempted to try the original
ecu on it , it also sounds like the mechanic you are using is a bit clueless and more or
less guessing what it could be . It will be very interesting to know exactly what it was
when you get to the bottom of it .

Puggy, yer right there,, ths is not ma usual mechanic, i was introduced ti this Polish guy thru a friend,, as he was a auto electrician with some mechy skills.... but obviously not enough eh

Puggy, Tell me.. is it possible to keep the newish immobiliser an refit my old bsi computer, as i think in the first instance it was the immobiler at fault...
wil the original bsi run ok with the second immob. ???
and is it just the case of changing it over ??? unpugging it then plugging the original one in.. should everything work still.... as i thought the bsi is programmed to work with the immob an chip in the key... i thought all three components ned to be changed to all work together. ???

Not much into electrics myself but hopefully some of the guy's on here that are
might be able to help. If it was me i would put back your original ecu bsi and
immobilser undo the bypass the polish guy did and get someone who know's
what he is doing to look at it . I do know the 406 does not take kindly to
mix and match of these components and i would think even less so when the
parts come from a 90 and 110 , sorry i can't be more helpful .

Puggy.. I think he has already put the wiring right to be able to install the new immob, I`m not certain that the components fitted is definatley from a 110, im gonna go to the scrappy the morra to get the reg o the car, that way a`l be able to find out just whats in thecar an what size it is...it came froma Y reg, with a lot of walnut in it and elec seats. mine doesnt have a lot of walnut an no elec seats, thats why am thinkin its more of higher spec car, where can i find out on the forum the spec of certain cars...I take it mines is a D9, its a Vreg, 90 2.0 ltr hdi... thanks bud fur helpin me here. john

when you go to the scrappy open the drivers door and look at the door pillar it
should havea sticker saying it is a 110 if not and the engine is still in it stand
at the front and look at the right hand side of the radiator if there is another
little radiator at the side of it thats the intercooler and its a 110 .
Also what is the interior like , condition colour is it an estate ??
If you do have the original parts i would seriously consider putting them
back on and starting afresh , all of them can be quite easily fitted by you .

ok guys, went to the scrappy today... theres no intercooler on the car,, and the guy also told me it was a 90, so what do ye`s think ma best port of call is now,,, also i think ive been mixing my words up a bit,, i have mentioned ecu unit, the computer, an the BSI, when i was thinkin of the same part all the time....
can someone put me right... the thin black box under the steering column i take it thats the Immobiliser..
and as ye look at the engine, in the black plastic box on the left side is that the ???? i have been calling thatTHE BSI...ECU... an lastly The Computer.using 3 names fur the same part.
anyway, seeing as its definatley all 90 components.. am I right in sayin things should be looking UP, so what actually happens now, they are all plugged in an the car is starting fine an the cars running,, albeit its in limpmode not revving above 2800 revs,, and also theres the Bleeping from the stereo.. an my management light is on in my dash, but even in limpode, the car will drive ad say Normal as long as ye dont race it in acceleration, it drives fine,, an will do 70 mph easily in top gear but when an if I came to a hill it would struggle or try an drop gears to say overtake,,, then theres no power there... is the 70 mph in top a LIMPMODE...
I take it I need to get it connected to a computer an look for fault codes ??? will it/ should it tell me exactly whats wrong or ONLY ballpark problems...All I really need it to do is stop the bleeping in the stereo, an rev freely, an that should be it..... if it was as easy as that...eh!!! nothins easy on a PUG.... I love driving the car,so I do want to be keeping it so I want to get it right... will it still all be ok to drive it the now in the condition its in LIMPMODE....
when Ive read of other form users talking about LIMPMODE,, i thought their car was a real slow joe... just to get you home... but with mine it lets me play with 2800 revs... an up they revs its no slouch.... its done 120k miles... its a V reg...and as I had the High pressure pump changed as well I now have a new Timing belt kit in it as well... so another reason to run the car to it breaks fur good.......
oh an by the way, a way at the start I had problems with my key fob,, but thats all fixed now, as im using the same key obviously but with the gubbings inc the chip from the Donner car..... all central locking is all ok now. sorry ma thread is so long , but a want to put ye`s in the picture....

Puggy, ye mentioned if I have all the original parts, yer sayin Put them back on an start again.......WHY ??? if I done that I would be in the boat that I was in 3 weeks ago an 500 quid lost...I AM Thinkin it was the Immob that was the problem at the start.. could I run the donner immob, an run the origional computer thingy that I dont know its name. as in my last post,... is the Chip in the Key proggrammed to the Immob or the Computer as well ???
