The problem with these kind of forums is that everyone is asking questions about something that's NOT right with their car but it doesn't mean every single 406 on the road is the same.......ooh, hang on.....

Well sam , having had me suspension probs sorted the old girl is running a treat i for one am
glad i purchased a 406 and considering i have owned her for over 3 years am very pleased with her
general reliability .
Yup, people generally post on forums because they need help with a problem. To get a proper measure your dad's mate needs to compare this forum with several others, I bet he'd find the quantity and magnitude of the faults on here to be no worse that most and considerably less than some other marques.
Oh yeah, mines fine and has been for ages. That's not to say that there aren't a couple of niggles that could be addressed but all cars have them, it's still the nicest, most comfortable, most reliable car i've ever had.

Mine is doing exactly as its told right now, performing perfectly:) I told it to be slowly smashed to pieces by the roads here and to hang on for another month or two, then it can either die a graceful death or be bought and run into the ground by an unsympathetic pole. I do wish the aircon wasnt dead as its reading 44 on the outside temp gauge today whilst moving and in the shade! But it does mean I have taken shelter in a local shopping mall and the talent is just out of this world- just thought you might want to know.
My 407 continues to be abused and continues to be totally faultless. Probably the best car I've ever owned in that regard.
I always chuckle at people who buy used 407s, often with patchy history, and usually with no professional inspection, who then moan like feck a month later when the engine melts as if it's somehow the cars fault that they bought an unloved and thrapped old smoker.
hi there , I bought mine for £800 51 plate ex lease car (so I'm assuming it will have had all it wants been under it over it all is tight and dry ) replaced cambelt kit always do, fitted towbar from scrappy £40 it's got 173000 on the clock and the only toy that doesn't work is passenger leccy window and cd done the egr thingy goes tons better fingers crossed now i've posted this though i could have jinxed it just gonna play with it now to get the best from it gonna treat it to all new fluids filters etc and see how i go from here what a bargain
Got a lovely fuel leak My 406 is going to have to go. Might be getting a 306 DTurbo tommorow. We'll see.

You should have been grasping a very large piece of oak in both hands when you made the first post (Typing with your nose of course )
Thing is, this isn't really a "cor! Look how many more bhp I can get out of my car if I just spend 50 grand on a few tweaks" website, the 406 just isn't that sort of car and doesn't normally attract that sort of owner. This site is more about solving problems with them and keeping them going without spending a fortune, therefore the majority of posts are concerned with just this sort of thing so, unfortunately, anyone surfing here is quite likely to think the 406 is a disaster waiting to happen. What you have to remember is there are many, many more 406 owners that never get here simply because they never have any problems!
