Keys and Trip problems

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Keys and Trip problems

Post by sarrazin »

Hi ,
Newbie after some help, i have just brought a 2001 406 LX estate and have a couple of problems. I have 2 keys but only 1 will operate the central locking i have tried to sync the key using the various methods described on the forum but have not got the 2nd key to work any other ideas?
Also the trip computer is playing up, it displays all the info correctly but it scrolls through the displays without touching the button on the wiper stalk, when you push the button it moves from 1 display to the next as it should but then it just continues to scroll through the readings sometimes it will stay on a reading for 10 seconds then it starts scrolling again. The button does not seem to be sticking would a bsi reset cure this?
If i did a reset would i lose the remote central locking on the 1 key that works?
Thanks.

I'd suggest grabbing yourself a replacement stalk - you should be able to get hold of one for under £20 delivered. Make sure it's one from an estate with the trip computer function on it. Coupés and saloons in general didn't have rear wipers, and the trip computer button's not always on there...

Thanks MJB Is there a way of bypassing the trip switch on the stalk? to see if that is the problem does anyone know which wire on the stalks connector is for the trip switch.

Unplug the stalk

See the large trip computer retro-fit thread, it MAY have that info in there somewhere
