A new member and my 406

Post by Baggie406 »

Hello everyone,

I have had a 406 for 6 months and found your boards whilst searching for answers to a few of the niggles I've had with my car since I got it. Nothing major, overall I am seriously impressed !

This is my 406 1.9TD (the pics are from the trader page when I bought the car, I don't have any others!)

I picked it up for a grand with 75k on the clock. It's been wonderfully cared for and is in great condition for the age, with pretty low mileage by comparison.

Unfortunately I don't know much about 406's in general other than it's great on fuel and fits my fishing tackle in the back with ease.

I see lots of references to d8 and d9 but I don't know what my model is? I have got a few questions to ask so maybe one of you helpful chaps could give me a bit of a hand identifying the car before I go asking about other things...answers may depend on my model and I don't want to risk looking a berk ;)

cheers
Baggie

Welcome in Baggie! :)
Tidy looking car there!
Yours is a D8, these were the original 406 and have a slatted front grille. The D9's came out in '99 and have a honeycomb mesh front grille & body coloured strip through the rear light cluster.

Have a read here :)

Hello there,

thanks for the info...so I now know it's a D8. Good times, thanks for that Teamster.

Dogslife - thanks mate, it is indeed very tidy. When I went to look at it I was bowled over by how good it's overall condition was, there's very little to say this thing is getting old. The bodywork has just a couple of tiny marks, the alloys are in near perfect condition with no bubbling and the interior is really clean with no rips or stains. I snapped it up !

Just need to sort a few problems out, but they're tiny problems compared to what I've had with my last cars
