It will depend whether the oilways and water ways are in the same place on both heads, also depends whether the blocks are from the same family/engine design. As an example, you can't just fit a Peugeot Mi16 16V head on an 8V block as the waterways and oilways are in slightly different places.
You really would be better off finding out from the Suzuki club though, or at least find a more common car that uses the same engine so you could ask on there.

Re: 309 gti6 turbo project
i suppose so, im waiting for a vitara to come up for sale could well be a 16v but i doubt it, anyhow a good webber carb though might make the difference of a 16v head. i think the 1600 8v is 75bhp and the 16v 95bhp, and i think at the moment the samurais 1.3 is about 60bhp and in somehting as light as it the bigger engine should make plenty of differenece even for torque.

Re: 309 gti6 turbo project
as said, the oil, water and cylinders will need to line up. Obviously if the 16v bores are closer or further spread apart then it will just be rediculous. wont seal with the head gasket as firering will be in wrong place, valves will hit the block, if pistons are domed (unlikely but posible) they might hit the head etc. You need to see if its been done before, or if u have the money to waste, buy a 16v and take ur 8v appart and compare them ;)

Re: 309 gti6 turbo project
there definatley isnt money to waste on this project, the i initially intended to do a diesel conversion but this is easier when i can get a vitara for £100 thats the new engine and gearbox which just slots in ok, and the wider axles to stop the roll over issue

Very impressive! I like the engine bay very much.
I had a 309 GRi (the 1.6 Gti engine) went really well.
That's a big old turbo to spool up
