406 HDI 90 Loss of clutch

Post by TyasStark »

Firstly what a great forum .... loads of great info on here 8)

Righty then ... Hello my name is Tyas Stark, I have a Pug 406 HDI 90 on a Y plate, she has done 149,000 miles and I think the clutch has just gone

The clutch peddle started shakeing when the clutch peddle was fully pressed, I thought it could be the thrust bearing... then the other day while driving I went to select a lower gear as I was going up hill and I couldn't get it out of gear.... so pulled over and the car stalled.... the clutch peddle is pressed again the floor and wont come back.... could this be anything to do with hydrolics or will it be the clutch ?

Thanks

Tyas

Had similar in an Alfa GTV, but the clutch could be lifted from under the pedal by the toe of the shoe.

Was a clutch cylinder sticking.

could either be failed hydraulics (easy to tell as there'll be low brake fluid in the reservoir as it'll have spurted out somewhere) or a failed release bearing, in which case you're honestly better off replacing the clutch given the amount of time required to do the job - see my V6 clutch change howto for an idea

My 406 2.0 90 HDI did same thing last winter, 50 miles from home, managed to drive home crashing a few gears.

Release bearing disintegrated and clutch release fork worn from contact with pressure plate.

New clutch kit required.

I followed advice on this site, made job a lot easier
