hi guys , how hard is it to replace an alternator on a 1997 406 diesel estate ?

not too hard, just a bit of a squeeze to get your hand in, but other than that its an accomplishable task, the haynes goes over the issue well but someone might come onto the thread with some good colour photos and a better explanation than haynes does

It's not a bad job, you may need to move the PAS pump aside to get the alternator out.
Take a photo of the belt routing before you remove it!
