What Temp Should a TD Get To?
Mine seems to stay around 70-75, rising to 80 when idling for a decent lengh of time.
I was expecting mid way, which would be about 90?
It has a new radiator, so cooling should be spot on. Just wondering if it has a termostat in or if its been removed completely.

Probably the thermostat need replacing (and change the coolant).
I wonder if removing the stat was someone's idea of compensating for the crappy radiator before they got around to swapping the rad?

Yeah, it should rise slowly to begin with to around 70 and then continue to climb and sit around 85-90 and stay there too.
You'll see more smoke too out the eggsauce if it's not at full temp.

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?
It only smokes when at 3k+ revs. I'll see about replacing the thermostat over the weekend then.

my 2.1 runs low temp as well 75/80
mine only gets up to about 90 if the water gets low

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?
My 2.1 likes to sit at about 70-75, doesn't really matter how I drive.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.

the temp gauge on a car really shouldn't have numbers on them, as this is very misleading.
there is a big flat spot right in the middle of the gauge, as the temp fluctuates constantly, so this flat spot stops the needle from jumping around causing concern to the driver.
when the needle is right in the middle, whether it has a big 90 next to it or not, that could actually be any temp between 80 and 100, depending on the car and how big a flat spot the manufacturer built into it.

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?
i have a 1.9 td. 3 months ago my engine temp was staying around the 70-75 mark ... and my heaters wasnt getting hot,
new thermostat and 3 litres of coolant later my engine temp went to 85-90 and my heaters was working properly,
only cost about £10 as well , well worth doing it ,peice of mind having put 3 fresh litres of anti-freeze in with these winter months coming

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?
I did an 100 mile trip on the motor way last weekend and it never went over 70 degrees even when it went over 70 (if you get my drift). It did rise to about 75 degrees in traffic though

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?
My 1.9td sits at 70 constantly, once it gets the turbo working hard it will progress upto 90 but then come back down to 70. Heaters nice and warm at 70 also.
I do get a bit of smoke under full laboured throttle on boost when it's below 75 but thats because i've bumped up the fueling and haven't adjusted the boost fueling levels.
