2.2 sri oil leak help needed

Post by no2lurch »

with my d9 2.2 sri, on the floor, i noticed a few oil drops under the front bumper this morning in front of the drivers wheel.

i drove to work and had a look in the engine bay but there doesnt seem to be and obvious oil leaks, nor does there appear to be any oil pipes in that area.

its deffo engine oil as its black oil and doesnt smell, so i know its not gearbox oil or brake fluid.

where could it be leaking from? any points to pay particular attention to?

thanks in advance

That's weird, I can't think of anything 'oily' that would be in that location :?

Are you sure its not from someone else's?

'tis true, it is oily though, when mine leaked onto the snow it was obviously red, on tarmac it could have been anything. I think you need to jack up the car and have a serious peering session with a torch :?

i thought i might remove it friday night, go for a drive then see where the oil (if any) is dripping onto the drive.

Ah, if you have an undertray it could be coming from anywhere. Neither of mine left the factory with one so I can't see a problem.

D9s are lower and prone to sump damages than the D8s. So make sure you don't come across any humps at a speed to make sure the sump is intact till you fix the thing back in place.

I had a oil leak in the engine and was tired of finding from where it comes out. Ended up replacing all the possible oil seals in the engine including the tappet cover packing seal.

Have a look at the power steering fluid tank, look for oil leaking from one of the hoses, it might be leaking down onto the inner wing and dropping from there.

my plan for tomorrow is remove the under engine tray and cover the drive with card, then wait till saturday for drips.

Reminds me of when I was on the Mazda forum and some animal pissed right under a guys engine bay........

........*much* searching and dipping fingers into this yellowish liquid and sniffing it later he realised it wasn't from his car afterall
