Re: The Expense Has Started ...
306 XUDTs seem to be popular with chavs round this neck of the woods, so are always overpriced. Nothing to do with veg oil, they are like sheep and because some had them and screwed the diesel intake, they're all at it.
Can get XUDT ZXs (same chassis as 306) and Xantias (same chassis as 406, suspension renewed with oil filter wrench in 10 minutes, 20 pound a corner).

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
yes they screw at the cars diesel intake but i was behind one such car, smoke bellowing out the back end the noise of a straight through diesel disturbing the peace and quiet and this made the car sound like it was being drove fairly hard, all i had to do was put my foot down a bit and overtook mr i cant spell my own name; chav with no effort at all. The best thing to do when buying a 306 over here is to avoid any which has the r plates up in the windscreen, cant they understand that when selling it on gumtree who wants to buy a car after an r driver has had it.

Enlarge the picture to see the R. For those outside NI and the Isle of Man, compulsory for 1 year after passing the test, restricted to 45mph.
Usually stands for " ' Reckless" (sic), a young driver showing off to his mates, thinks he is Sebastian Vettel, his 306 "d turbo" is reeking black smoke.
"scwerd 1/4 turn bave an quick, straight pipe, back three windows tinited"

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
That 306 looks very low. Also noticed that it has a mainland reg no.
How do all these mainland cars keep ending up over in NI then? Would've thought it'd cost too much to come over here to get them. I know prices in the South are extortionate. Everytime I drive through Athlone I see quite a few NI reg cars for sale in front of peoples houses which I'm guessing is a bit of a duty fiddle.
Or is it because most of these chavs have got their hands on (& ruined) all the NI used cars so you have no choice, but to buy from the mainland?

Cars a few year old are cheaper in GB due to the numberplates changing every 6 months.waue1978 wrote:That 306 looks very low. Also noticed that it has a mainland reg no.

ie. I am better than you because my numberplate says 60 and yours says 55

Of course have to factor in a couple of hundred quid for ferry etc.
NI cars are cheaper than ROI cars and no ferry crossings are involved.

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
Down south (ROI) cars in my opinion are generally of a lower spec and mainly jap imports, peugeot is suprisingly hard to see down there.
The reason i went to england for my car was that over there was the only place i could see one in good nick, if i bought out of here i would get something previously owned by some laud who had a load of interest in his car but still hadnt sold it.
But over here especially where i live which is relativley close to the border the quantity of bad diesel is amazing so theres a lot of cars with ballsed up pumps.
It cost £300 to take my car home, that included the flight to liverpool, then the taxi to chester, and then the diesel to that ferry in wales, i got into dublin and drove up the road.
But if your wondering where all your A4's have gone they have all been imported here

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
We import their decent cars, and we export them our numberplates.
Every S class, 7series, Lexus LS etc. in GB of a certain vintage seems to have a "BAZ" or "BIG" numberplate

By Jes that was a nice d-turbo in the ad bai
I brought my old 405 over from Engerland, saw it on ebay one evening and was standing at a BP filling station near Stansted airport the next morning doing a deal on it. Drove virtually non-stop to Stranraer and was on the 8 o'clock ferry
Had to go to England for it because there was nothing of decent spec in NI. I only had the car for 6 months before I had to sell it unfortunately, damn uni fee's!!
Not sure exactly why, but it's very rare to find a top spec'd car over here. There are literally mountains of 406's and 306's etc. here but your chances of seeing an exec. or gti-6 are beyond slim!

I bought my old Xantia in a similar way. Guy picked me up at Stansted and over to Leatherhead to pick it up.CountryPug wrote:By Jes that was a nice d-turbo in the ad bai![]()

Was half way around the M25 before I realised I'd forgot to call the insurance company to switch it over

And in my demented logic I figured I would visit uni friends in Edinburgh (it's on the same island, right?), spend a weekend drinking ale then drive it home. Forgot it had no tax, so luckily it wasn't clamped in Stockbridge!

on the issue of high spec i think a lot of us norn iron people dont understand the concept of trim levels and alway end up with the poverty spec models. The only exec i know of is a neighbour who lives 2 miles away (thats the real countryside) he got his from england also and told me to go there to get a good nick car.

I was told too that the advantage of English cars, even high mileage diesels, is that they are likely to be motorway miles, with the hundreds of miles of motorway there compared to the pairly pathetic in comparison M1/M2/M2bypass/M3/M5/M12/M22 here.

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
What about the iconic stockmans lane, ive spent a few days of my life up on that road doing nothing, how can traffic be so slow. The M1 is one of the most boring roads ive drove on, but the replacement for the balagawley line is a nice road worth a drive up, and ive did the drive from sprucefield to newry and thats not too bad.

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
The A1 is a lot better these days than it was, but what I meant is a high mileage diesel in England is probably being used to pound the M6, M4, M1, M25 etc. day in- day out, whereas a diesel in NI is likely to be stop-start-stop-start and our longest motorway (the M1) is only 38 miles long.406executiveHDI wrote:What about the iconic stockmans lane, ive spent a few days of my life up on that road doing nothing, how can traffic be so slow. Re: The Expense Has Started ...
i agree we dont have many long stretches here for good quality ex fleet cars. Id say at least there is some good roads for driving but they are all full of potholes
