HA
HA
HA ha ha.
A bit slow then, the polo sdi has 75 and takes 17 seconds to get to 60 in a 406 it must be dangerously close to the 20 second mark.
On the topic of small engines in big cars, the skoda octavia with a 1.4, and the BX with a 1.1 this redefines the meaning of underpowered

Re: Theres a 1.6
the newer 1.4s are sweet,
VW do a 1.4tsi engine and it has 168BHP
168 BHP in a 1.4 petrol

and it even returns about 39mpg

Re: Theres a 1.6
66Kw is 88.5hp, not too short of the 1.9 & 90 HDi (It won't have the torque of course)

Re: Theres a 1.6
and the torque is what matters. My dads nissan primera 1.8 i think has round 115, or 120 bhp but the torque is really very little and you notice the difference a lot in the 2 cars.
The skoda octavia i seen i think was before the tfsi engines came out, but it must have had something a naturally aspirated 1.4 in a big car like that would have been stupid. On the other end of the scale why does some american cars (pontiac aztek for an example) with 4 litres only develop figures around 180bhp

Re: Theres a 1.6
120bhp isnt much from a nissan 1.8, though it doesnt seem to be garnished with the normal japanese decoration ie twin cam is not wrote anywhere under the bonnet.

Re: Theres a 1.6
Been asking myself the same thing. American cars are not known to be the best. Two years ago, my hire car in Atlanta was a Pontiac G6 with a 3.5L V6 engine. It was.. RUBBISH. Had to really thrash it get anywhere. Auto gearbox didn't help, obviously. What a waste of metal. (Nice sound system though...406executiveHDI wrote: On the other end of the scale why does some american cars (pontiac aztek for an example) with 4 litres only develop figures around 180bhp

Re: Theres a 1.6
the main issue with american cars i see is they have been going downhill, look on wikipedia at some like the mercury cougar, ford thunderbird, and even the dodge charger. They went from huge shiny loud muscle cars into crappy plastic shitboxes, the carger even ended up with a 1.7

Re: Theres a 1.6
I wouldn't want to have an engine less powerful than the 1.8 petrol.
The 1.6 was never sold in the UK though, to the best of my recollection.
