The 406

Post by FarmerPug »

Wikipedia hasnt enough information.

Who designed the 406, the saloon, is there a name of the designer, what else did he she design.

Where was the 406 built, is there any specific google map location of where it was built, and any chance some were made in the UK?

Well i suppose being wikipedia i could just make it up saying the 406 was built in outer space by aliens but that wouldnt be useful for the other users, and it doesnt help me know where abouts the 406 was actually made. Whats happened to the old talbot plant where the 309 was built was any 406 made there.

There was a 6 digit code painted in yellow on the strut top, that a bit back I thought may have been the paint code, as there was no other indication as to the paint code on the car.
Turns out it's the build code and the factory it was built at - first 4 numbers relate to date, second 2 to the plant it was built at

The code on my strut is 809887

81 = Poissy France
82 = Villaverde Spain
83 = Ryton UK
85 = Vesoul France
87 = Eiv Poissy France
88 = Mulhouse France
89 = Sochaux France
U5 = Pininfarina Italy
U8 = Sevel Italy
U9 = Sevel nord France
UT = Kolin Czech
CA = Aulnay France
CJ = Rennes France
FV = Vigo Spain
G8 = Creil France
G9 = Gennevilliers France
RE = Rennes France

So using this http://oecc.nexenservices.com/Narizin/tech/orga.php
It turns out my car was made on Monday 11th January 1999 at Eiv Poissy France

It should be on the label on the driver's a post. Also, you can get it from Service Box using your chassis number.

According to that your build code is 09242 89 - Thu 28 Feb 2002, Sochaux :shock: :?

Service Box - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ You'll need to make an account (if you didn't already) then stuff your vin into the box top left where it says "Vehicle". Then hit "Characteristics" and it's up the top where it says Build Code. Mine says 09891 89 2 0020, Tue 9 Dec 2003 at Sochaux (our cars are brothers :cheesy: ), I've no idea what the last bit's about though.

Well thats good to know at least its french, and the completing bit of all this reasearch, sochaux on google maps:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=s ... a=N&tab=wl
so if ever theres going to be a big 25th anniversary of the 406 this should be where it is, the peugeot museum isnt far off here.

on the cars being brothers bit, isnt yours equipped with the steering wheel on the incorrect side, do they make both left and right handed cars on the same production line, and has anyone actually got a ryxton made car.
