"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

5 is slightly thinner than 10....it's all about viscosity rating at different temperatures.

There is loads of info around but look at this...http://www.carbibles.com/viscosity.html

I was told to go for a fully-synthetic 5w40 oil because the car is slightly older and because it is more of a performance car than I've had before, so I picked up some Castrol Edge stuff (watch though, because there's two types of Castrol Edge 5w40, one is recommended for diesels, the other for petrol or diesel, which is the one I went for). The 1 litre bottle was £10 from ASDA, but closer to £20 in some other places (even online).

I have only used it to top up the oil level in the sump, but when I go to get the car serviced this month, I'll be sure to supply this stuff as the oil. Anyone know what the oil capacity for the 2.2 EW12 J4 engine might be?

I'm not arguing with anyone

i just pointed out that 5w40 and 10w40 are both fine to use in the HDi and last night I thought it dead funny that an oil supplier lists something different than what most of us use.

BTW, I have 40 years experience in the motor trade  8)

i think the oil issue is the same as the fuse location issue, its hard just to say precisley what to do. Just dont put sand in the engine, i wouldnt say thats a good thing to do.
