This dinner time I put the key in and turned it, but the engine wouldn't fire.
Then Com2000 squarks and I get the message "engine anti-theft system defective" and on orange light on dash (a square with a key going into it from the right).
I took the key back out and tried again. It started as normal and everything seems fine.
No trouble since.
wtf is wrong now? Whimsical non-starting is a very worrying problem.
It does it sometimes if you put in a key and turn the ignition on too quickly, it doesn't have time to "register" the code. I had this problem on my D8 which was very intermittent.
Mine's done that 3 times in the last couple of years, just fit the key again and it's ok. I presume eventually it'll let me down in a more apparent manner but I've played with intermittent faults before and it's a mug's game.
Reckon it's got one of those biosensors photocopiers have - you know the way their liklihood of working is inversely proportional to the state of agitation of the user.

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
You should get the battery tested. It's not the barrel you need to change, it's the aerial around it - #1 here:
I don't *think* they need configuring. They're different for multiplex and non-multihex cars, so make sure you get the right one (the one for multiplex cars is about 11 quid from Pug)
Wow. That's really helpful.
The diagram shows the magic number thingy, which I don't have.
Well I've got a new battery. The old one measured OK, but under load the needle went down into an orange area. It had been in for over 5 years and I read (somewhere on here) that D9s are very sensitive to iffy batteries, so I have a new battery.
No trouble yet, but we shall see tomorrow morning: cold starts seem to be much worse than warm starts...
Had it on my coupe, about 3 times in 4.5 years of owning it. Crapped 'em first time it happened, but then realised it was another randome Peugeot message that comes and goes.

Oh please don't say that, you've got me worried again now. Still, 3 times is rather different from every time you turn the key.
