coilpacks can break down under load too, so maybe thats wortha look, but the best way it to get it plugged in, other than that the only thing that comes to mind without looking at it is a lazy injector

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

the symptons sound like a dodgy carburettor, but on this car the ecu is the carburettor so its probably the problem

Have you not tried giving it an Italian tune up ?

fire some Red/ex in the tank and take it somewhere quiet and give it a thrashing ,
it couid be the injectors etc hence giving it a good clear-out might help,

from your symptons it sounds like a electric or fuel proplem.
i think its fuel
the car ticks over fine but when you gas it you have a proplem
try running without the fuel cap on as there could be a blockage
could be low fuel pump pressure
also have you checked the fuel filter?as you run the car so low it could be sucking up rubbish
and stop being so mean by only putting 5/10 pounds worth in as the pump might not be getting enough fuel :cheesy: [you can always syphone it out if you scrap the car]

Does this problem only happen when the engine is warm? Years ago had a problem with my Vauxhall Carlton: drove up to N Wales no trouble, on the way back stopped at junction and engine died. Didn't start. Fortunately at top of hill so coasted down and managed to bump start but next time conked out at bottom of hill. Called 'man who can' who checked injectors and found it was over injecting, suspected ECU. Got me going and got home. Next day all okay so drove into injector bod and got him to check the ECU. Despite the thing almost expiring as it drove in to workshop he couldn't find any problem until I pointed out that alternator was pressing against some engine sensor. To cut a long story short the previous owner had upgraded the alternator but kept the same belt so it was pressing against the engine temp sensor causing an intermittent fault, engine thought it was cold so flooded. Put in a longer belt and all happy from then on.
Could you have a dodgy sensor and when giving it some welly you're flooding it?

Sparky - I was just about to suggest the coolant temperature sensor - mine 1.8 has been playing up again, and this time I think its the CTS. Keys84 - if you still have the car try unplugging the CTS (the one of the three with the green connector). The first idle may be a bit rough, but once the ECU realizes that the CTS is disconnected it will handle the fuel management. If you notice a difference (for the better), then just replace that sensor...
